What this part is

A PanelMate Power Series operator interface terminal — a panel-mounted industrial HMI. It is the operator’s window onto a machine or process: screens of live values, alarms, setpoints and control buttons, driven by a configuration downloaded into the terminal and by a serial or network link to a PLC or drive. PanelMate was Cutler-Hammer’s flagship HMI line and passed to Eaton with the rest of the Cutler-Hammer automation business.

Decoding the designation

1570T — the terminal model number. Within the PanelMate range the leading digits identify the terminal hardware; the T denotes the touch-input build rather than a bezel-key-only unit.HX — the hardware build/option letters for this variant.PM-1500 — the PanelMate Power Series 1500 platform. This is the field that decides software and spares compatibility: the 1500 platform is distinct from the 1700 platform (terminals such as the 1785T-PMPP-1700), and a configuration and driver set built for one platform is not simply moved to the other.92-01798-08 — the Cutler-Hammer internal assembly number carried on this unit’s label. Useful for cross-checking a stores record or a repair quote, and often the only number a maintenance system holds.

Firmware and configuration: read this before you buy:
A PanelMate terminal is not useful out of the box. Three things have to line up:

The configuration. Screens are authored on a PC in the PanelMate configuration software of the matching generation and downloaded to the terminal. This unit ships with no application configuration — the screens, tags and alarm database from your machine are yours to supply, and they live on the engineering PC, not in the box.The communication driver. PanelMate talks to controllers through platform-specific drivers — Allen-Bradley DH+ and DF1, Modbus, Cutler-Hammer’s own protocols and others. The driver has to match both the target controller and the terminal platform.The cable. The download cable and the controller communication cable are specific to the terminal’s ports and the controller. Neither is included.
If you are replacing a failed terminal on a running machine and you still have the original configuration file and driver, this is a straightforward swap and by far the cheapest way back into production. If the configuration has been lost, budget for recreating it — that is engineering time, and it is usually the real cost of a PanelMate failure, not the hardware.

What is not included

Application configuration or screen file, PanelMate configuration software or licence, communication driver, download cable, controller communication cable, power supply or cord, panel-mounting gasket and clamps beyond those fitted, memory card or cartridge, backup battery, protective screen overlay, and documentation. No PLC, drive or controller is included.

Installation notes

Cut the panel aperture to the terminal’s own template rather than to a generic HMI cutout, and fit the gasket so the front-face seal is continuous — the ingress rating of a panel-mount HMI is entirely a function of a clean, evenly clamped gasket. Route the communication cable away from drive output cables and contactor wiring; serial HMI links are the classic victim of a nearby VFD. Land the earth to the panel properly. On new old stock of this vintage, expect any internal backup battery to be at or past end of life — plan to check and replace it as part of commissioning, and take a backup of the configuration as soon as the terminal is running.

Interchange guidance

Direct interchange with other 1570THX-PM-1500 terminals. Related but different parts, not equivalents: other PanelMate Power Series 1500 terminals with different model numbers (screen, input and port arrangements differ), and PanelMate Power Series 1700 terminals such as the 1785T-PMPP-1700 — a different platform, not a substitute. Modern Eaton and third-party HMIs will do the job functionally but require a new cutout, new cabling and a completely rebuilt application; that is a project, not a swap. Where the panel, the wiring and the configuration all already suit a PanelMate 1500, a same-model unit is the fast route, which is what this is.
