What these specs mean in practice

7 mm is an extended range for a flush M18 — a standard embeddable M18 is typically 5 mm, so this sensor buys about 40 percent more standoff without giving up the ability to bed the barrel flush into a steel fixture. That extra clearance is what keeps a sensor alive on a machine where chips, slides or a crash could otherwise reach it. Flush mounting also means the surrounding metal does not detune it, which non-embeddable sensors will not tolerate.

The rated range assumes a standard mild-steel target. Non-ferrous metals derate it: aluminium, brass and copper reduce the effective range substantially, and stainless steel somewhat. 600 Hz is comfortable for cylinder position, index and part-present duty, not for high-speed tooth counting. PNP normally open means the sensor sources current to the load and the output goes high when a target is present, suiting a sinking PLC input.

What is not included

No mounting brackets or clamps. No jam nuts unless visible in the photographs. No connector, cordset or junction box — the cable is flying-lead and needs terminating at your end. No amplifier or interface module; this sensor switches a DC load directly. No documentation.

Interchange guidance

BES-M18MG-USC70B-BP05, BES M18MG-USC70B-BP05 and BES0072 are the same sensor. Balluff has since cancelled this order number and lists BES0071 (BES M18MG-USC70B-BP03) as the direct alternative — electrically and mechanically identical with a 3 m cable instead of 5 m. BES0074 (BES M18MG-USC70B-BV03) is the same body and range but a different output configuration with a 3 m PVC cable, so it is a related option rather than a drop-in. Competing M18 flush 7 mm PNP NO sensors from other brands will fit the same M18 hole, but rated range, switching frequency and cable length must all be checked before treating one as equivalent.
