A single-row imperial tapered roller bearing cone — the inner ring complete with its tapered rollers and cage, in the ISO/ANSI 3585 size. It is the shaft-side half of a two-piece TS (single-row tapered) bearing; the outer race is a separate cup. Cone only. The matching cup is the Timken 3525, and the 3520 is the alternative published pairing.
3585 is an inch-series part number in the ANSI/ABMA interchange scheme rather than a metric ISO designation, so the same number is used across Koyo, Timken, NTN and SKF for the same cone geometry. The number carries no clearance, cage or closure suffix — tapered roller bearings are set on assembly, so running clearance is established by the mounting rather than by a suffix.
The K factor of 1.91 is the ratio of radial to thrust capability for the matched pairing: a higher K means a shallower cup angle, more radial capacity and less thrust capacity than a low-K bearing of the same envelope. At 1.91 the 3585/3525 sits in the general-purpose band used for gearbox and wheel-end positions carrying a predominantly radial load with moderate thrust. The effective centre lies 0.4 in. inside the cone backface, which shifts the load line for span calculations when two rows are mounted in opposition.
Bore (d): 1-5/8 in. (41.275 mm)
Inner ring width (B): 1.2160 in. (30.886 mm)
Dynamic radial rating C1, matched 3585/3525 assembly: 25,500 lbf (113,000 N)
Dynamic radial rating C90, matched 3585/3525 assembly: 6,610 lbf (29,400 N)
Dynamic thrust rating Ca90, matched assembly: 3,460 lbf (15,400 N)
Static radial rating C0, matched assembly: 30,100 lbf (134,000 N)
K factor: 1.91
Maximum shaft fillet radius: 0.06 in. (1.5 mm)
Shaft backing shoulder diameter: 1.89 in. frontface, 1.97 in. backface
Cone weight: 3.1 lb (1.4 kg)
One cone assembly, sold individually. Single row, tapered rollers, steel cage.
The cone seats on the shaft with an interference fit and is driven from the backface against the shoulder; force goes through the inner ring, never through the cage or rollers. Setting is done against the cup after both halves are in place, either to a specified endplay or to a light preload.
3585 is a direct interchange across Timken, Koyo, NTN, SKF and FAG (as K-3585) because the inch-series number defines the geometry. The 3580 shares the 3585 envelope family as a related size with a different inner ring width, so it is not a substitution for a 3585.
