What this part is

This is an SNFA VX15-9CE1 super-precision angular contact ball bearing with a 15 mm bore, 32 mm outside diameter and 9 mm width, open on both faces. SNFA is a French super-precision bearing maker, now part of the SKF group, and the VX series is built for machine tool spindles and other high-speed precision rotating assemblies.

Decoding the designation

VX15 gives the series and the 15 mm bore. The 9 immediately after the bore is the precision class, ABEC 9, which corresponds to ISO P2 — the tightest commonly supplied class, above P4 and P4A. The trailing 1 specifies a 15° contact angle. The 15 x 32 x 9 mm envelope matches the ISO 7002 light series, which is why the bearing is commonly cross-listed as a 7002-C-P2.

What these specs mean in practice

A 15° contact angle is the high-speed end of the angular contact range: less thrust capacity than a 25° bearing of the same envelope, but higher speed capability and lower heat generation. ABEC 9 tightens bore, outside diameter and running accuracy well beyond ABEC 7, which is what holds spindle runout down at speed. The two specifications work together — the low contact angle allows the speed, and the precision class makes that speed usable.

The same-envelope, same-angle equivalents at a lower precision class are SKF 7002 CD/P4A, FAG B7002-C-T-P4S and NSK 7002CTRP4, all 15°, 15 x 32 x 9 mm, but ground to P4 or P4A rather than P2. A 7002 ACD/P4A carries a 25° contact angle and is a related size rather than a substitution.
