A single-row angular contact ball bearing in the RHP 70-series light dimension range, with a 15° contact angle and a machined phenolic laminate cage. One raceway shoulder is relieved so the ball complement runs on a line inclined to the radial plane, which gives the bearing thrust capacity in one direction.
The 70 prefix marks a single-row angular contact ball bearing in ISO dimension series 70. In the RHP scheme C is a 15° contact angle and T a machined phenolic laminate cage. The alternate carton designation 7016X2EP1 confirms the angle independently, X2 being 15° in the RHP B-series scheme, and the form 7016CTR carries TR, a phenolic cage guided on the outer ring land.
A 15° contact angle is the speed-biased choice in this family. The shallow load line keeps ball centrifugal and gyroscopic effects low, so a 15° bearing reaches a higher limiting speed and runs cooler than a 25° or 40° bearing of the same envelope, while giving up axial capacity and axial stiffness in exchange.
The phenolic laminate cage is the other speed-oriented feature. Laminated fabric is lighter than machined brass and self-lubricating against the balls, which suits oil-mist and grease-for-life spindle service and runs quietly. Its limit is temperature: phenolic sets the ceiling at roughly 120 °C, ahead of the steel, so it is a high-speed cage rather than a high-heat one.
1 Pc. The designation carries no universal-grinding code and no preload letter, so the faces are ground to standard single-bearing dimensions rather than to a matched-set stack height.
A single-row angular contact ball bearing carries thrust in one direction only. Axial load in the opposite direction is taken by a second bearing opposing this one, or by another element in the shaft stack.
The bearing is directional: the wide land face of the outer ring is the back face and takes the thrust. Mounting is normally against a shaft shoulder and a housing shoulder on the load side, with the opposing bearing clamped through spacers.
7016C is the ISO base designation for a 15° angular contact bearing in this series, and 2MM9116WI is the Fafnir-scheme number for the same 15° 70-series position. Same-series bearings differing in contact angle, preload grade or tolerance class — the 25° and 40° variants, the universally ground and duplex-ground preloaded forms, and the P4 and P5 super-precision classes — are related sizes rather than interchanges.
