An MRC 5208C double–row angular contact ball bearing, 40 mm bore x 80 mm outside diameter x 30.20 mm (1–3/16 in) wide, 30° contact angle, open with no shields or seals. Two rows of balls run at opposed 30° angles inside a single pair of rings, so one bearing carries heavy radial load plus thrust in both directions and resists tilting moments. Sold as 2 Pcs.
5200 — the MRC double–row angular contact ball bearing series, on the same envelope as the ISO 3200 series. That is why the carton also carries 3208.
08 — bore size code, 40 mm bore.
C — the MRC 5200–C build: open, with no shield and no seal. Where MRC’s –M build adds shields and higher capacity, the –C is the plain open bearing.
5208A is the alternate designation carried on this stock and is included as a search term.
A double–row angular contact bearing is what you fit where the shaft has to be located against thrust in both directions and there is no room — or no appetite for the assembly work — for a matched pair of single–row bearings. The two opposed 30° ball rows are ground into one set of rings at the factory, so the preload relationship is fixed and there is nothing to set on the bench. It is a genuinely rigid locating unit that resists tilting moments in a way a deep groove ball bearing cannot.
The 30° contact angle is the middle of the range: shallower angles favour radial load and speed, steeper ones favour thrust. At 30° you get a workable share of both, which is why the 5200 series turns up in pumps, gearboxes, machine tool feed screws and vertical shafts.
Being open matters two ways. It is the right choice where the housing already has its own seals or an oil bath and you do not want the drag of a shield — and it is the wrong choice in dirt, because there is nothing keeping contamination out. If you need the enclosed version on this same envelope, that is MRC’s 5208MFF, which adds two shields and, being the M build, carries a higher rating.
Bore 40.000 mm; outside diameter 80.000 mm; width 30.20 mm (1–3/16 in).
Contact angle 30°; two rows of balls.
Basic dynamic radial load rating C 44 900 N.
Basic static radial load rating C0 34 000 N.
Speed rating 5 600 rpm on grease, 7 500 rpm on oil.
Maximum shaft and housing fillet radius ra 1.00 mm.
Closure: open, no shield and no seal.
This listing sells as 2 Pcs — two complete bearings ship. Each is a self–contained double–row unit: both rings, both ball rows and cage, non–separable. They are not a factory–matched pair and do not need to be: a double–row angular contact bearing is already a complete locating bearing, so the two pieces are two independent bearings, handy for the two ends of one shaft or for a spare on the shelf.
Press only on the ring taking the interference fit, never through the balls. Keep shaft and housing fillets inside 1.00 mm radius so the rings seat square against their shoulders. Because the bearing takes thrust both ways, clamp it axially on both rings — left floating in the housing it cannot do the job it was chosen for. Do not try to adjust the preload; it is built in, and over–clamping only shortens the life. With an open bearing, take care to keep the raceways clean during assembly and to grease it properly on the bench before it goes in.
The 40 x 80 x 30.2 mm double–row angular contact envelope is the ISO 3208, so SKF 3208 A, FAG 3208–B–TVH, NSK 3208BTN and NTN 5208 all fit the same seat. Watch the contact angle when substituting: MRC’s 5200 series is 30°, whereas FAG’s 32xx–B–TVH runs 25° and its current 32xx–BD–XL runs 30°. A same–envelope bearing at a different angle is a related size, not a like–for–like replacement. Watch closure too — the 5208MFF and 3208–2Z are the shielded builds on this envelope, so they are related sizes rather than direct swaps for an open bearing. MRC bearings are part of SKF, which is the route to current supply.
