This is a flange-mounted S-2000 spherical roller bearing unit with a 2-3/16 in (55.56 mm) bore, built on a one-piece solid cast iron housing in ASTM A48 Class 30 grey iron. The insert is a double-row spherical roller bearing, equivalent to a 22211, retained on the shaft by a 65° setscrew Springlok collar with two setscrews. It is supplied in the expansion (floating) configuration, which lets the shaft grow and shrink axially without loading the housing.
FB – housing style code as marked on this unit (see the correction section below)S2 – S-2000 series, Dodge’s double-row spherical roller mounted bearing platform203 – bore size code, 2-3/16 inE – Expansion, meaning the insert is free to float axially in the housing
Earlier catalog copy for this item described it as a “ball bearing insert type” unit. That is wrong. Dodge S-2000 is a double-row spherical roller product, not a ball product. The distinction matters commercially and mechanically: a spherical roller insert of this size carries roughly four to five times the dynamic load of a comparable-bore standard-duty ball insert, tolerates shock loading, and costs correspondingly more. If you were cross-shopping this against a Dodge SC or SXR ball unit, you are not comparing like for like.
A second honesty note on the designation itself. Dodge’s published S-2000 housing-style list is P2B, P4B, F3R, F4S, F4R, FC, WSTU and TPHU. “FB” is not on that list. Likewise, the only published S-2000 seal codes are R (TRIDENT triple-lip rubbing seal) and L (labyrinth metallic seal) — the “S” ahead of the E is not a published Dodge seal code. FB-S2-203SE should therefore be treated as a legacy, unlisted or special-build variant rather than a current catalog number. Verify the markings on the unit nameplate against your application before committing.
Dynamic load rating (C): 27,000 lbStatic load rating: 32,500 lb per Dodge S-2000 catalog Table 1; some vendor feeds on 203-series units list 29,000 lb, so treat 29,000–32,500 lb as the reported range and 32,500 lb as the catalog figureMaximum speed: 2,700 rpm with labyrinth seal, 1,950 rpm with TRIDENT sealStatic misalignment capability: ±1° per catalog; current Dodge marketing literature cites up to 2°Axial float in expansion mode: up to 3/8 in across the series, 1/4 in for this size per install manual MN3033
These figures are for the 203-size four-bolt round flange family (F4R-S2-203) and are offered only to gauge physical scale. They are not confirmed for the FB housing code on this unit: 4.52 in bolt centre-to-centre, 6.38 in bolt circle, 5.88 in flange outside diameter, 3-1/4 in overall depth. Measure the unit in hand or the pattern on your machine before drilling or ordering a mate.
The seal choice is the speed limiter here, not the bearing. A labyrinth seal is non-contacting, so it costs nothing in friction and allows 2,700 rpm, but it relies on clearance and gravity to keep contamination out — fine on a clean, horizontal, moderate-environment shaft. The TRIDENT rubbing seal drops you to 1,950 rpm because the lips drag, but it actually excludes washdown, dust and fines. On conveyors, screens and process equipment the TRIDENT trade is almost always the right one; on high-speed clean drives it is not.
An S-2000 shaft should carry one non-expansion (fixed) unit and one expansion unit. The fixed unit locates the shaft axially and takes thrust; the expansion unit lets the shaft lengthen with temperature. Put two fixed units on one shaft and thermal growth has nowhere to go — you preload the bearings against each other and shorten their life dramatically. This unit is the expansion half of that pair. S-2000 units are field-convertible between expansion and non-expansion, so a build can be adapted at installation if the shaft layout changes.
One unit in stock. If you need a matched fixed unit for the other end of the shaft, ask — and confirm the housing pattern first, given the unlisted FB code.
Dodge mounted bearings originated with Rexnord, passed through Baldor and ABB, and are now sold as Dodge Industrial under RBC Bearings. Numbers and item codes have shifted across those transitions, which is exactly why legacy designations like this one still circulate. Common search forms for this part include FB-S2-203SE, FBS2203SE, FB S2 203SE and item 045169. The bearing insert itself is a 22211-class double-row spherical roller.
