What this part is

A Festo VUVG series 5/2 directional control valve in the 10 mm width, built as a bistable (double solenoid) impulse valve. Two coils and no spring return: a short pulse to either coil throws the spool and it stays there when the pulse ends, so a double-acting cylinder holds its last commanded position through a power failure rather than snapping back. Piston-slide construction with soft seals, LED switching indication and a manual override for commissioning.

Decoding the order code

VUVG: Festo VUVG compact valve family. B10: sub-base / manifold-mount body, 10 mm valve width. B52: 5/2 bistable, five ports, two positions, double solenoid, no spring reset. The M52 code is the monostable spring-return version of the same valve. RZT: reversible flow, external pilot air supply. F: flange / plate interface for the mounting base. 1T1L: individual electrical connection with LED, 24 V DC.

What these specs mean in practice

Bistable rather than spring return is the detail that decides most substitutions. A B52 does not return to a rest position when de-energised, so it does not replace an M52 in a circuit that relies on a spring to retract a cylinder on power loss, and it is the correct choice where the machine must not move on a power dip.

External pilot air means the pilot supply is fed separately rather than tapped from port 1. That is what lets the valve switch reliably at very low main pressure and down to vacuum on the working line (−0.9 bar), and it also means the valve does not shift until the pilot port is plumbed.

Coil voltage is 24 V DC at very low power draw, so it drives directly from a PLC output card.

The B in B10 is a mounting statement: this is the sub-base version, so it bolts onto a mounting plate or valve manifold. No sub-base, manifold block or cable is included in this listing. The VUVG-L family is the stand-alone inline form with threaded ports.

Mounting data

The body carries a flange interface for a sub-base or manifold block. The external pilot port is a separate connection from the main supply. A bistable valve retains the spool position it was left in.

Interchange guidance

VUVG-B10-B52-ZT-F-1T1L (Festo 573418) is the same 5/2 bistable valve with internal rather than external pilot air, a different part rather than a substitute. VUVG-B10-M52-RZT-F-1T1L (Festo 573416) is the monostable spring-return version in the same envelope: same body, opposite behaviour on power loss. VUVG-L10 valves are the inline threaded-port equivalents and do not fit a sub-base.
