What this part is

An AVENTICS Series AS1-SSV progressive filling valve — commonly called a soft-start valve. On start-up it admits compressed air to the downstream system slowly through an adjustable bleed, then snaps fully open once about half the supply pressure has built. That gradual ramp stops cylinders from firing to their end stops and stops a whole manifold coming alive at once, which is both a safety measure and the reason machines with long air receivers do not jolt when the supply is restored. It is a modular G1/4 module for an AS1 air preparation chain.

Earlier copy described this as a valve for pumps and hydraulic systems. It is a compressed-air (pneumatic) device from AVENTICS’s air preparation range and is not rated for hydraulic oil or hydraulic pressures.

What these specs mean in practice

The fill rate is adjustable, so you tune how long the machine takes to come up to pressure rather than accepting a fixed ramp. Internal piloting means there is nothing electrical here at all — no coil, no voltage to match and no connector to buy. If you need the fill to be commanded by a PLC, that is the job of the separate AS1-SOV solenoid module, not this one.

Because it switches to full flow only above roughly half supply pressure, a soft-start valve needs a real supply pressure to work against; it is not a low-pressure or vacuum device.

2000 l/min through a G1/4 body means it will feed a substantial manifold once open, so the soft start does not become a permanent flow restriction in normal running.

One soft start valve module, removed unused from an R480342567 air preparation unit. Connection plates, clamps and brackets are not included.

Installation and setup notes

Fit it downstream of the shut-off valve and upstream of the machine manifold, and set the fill screw so the slowest cylinder in the circuit still moves under control. Confirm flow direction against your chain: R412014749 is the same filling valve built right-to-left.

Interchange guidance

R412014749 is the R→L build of this valve. R412006272 (AS2-SSV-G014-FIA) and R412007273 (AS3-SSV-G012-FIA, G1/2) are the same function in the larger AS2 and AS3 size classes — related sizes, not drop-in substitutes for an AS1 chain. NL1-SSV-G014-FIA is the equivalent under the older Rexroth NL1 designation.
