A Parker Series 2A heavy-duty pneumatic cylinder — 1-1/2 inch bore, 16 inch stroke, 5/8 inch diameter piston rod, double acting, rated to 250 psi air. Series 2A is Parker’s steel-bodied tie-rod air cylinder line: high-strength tie rods with rolled threads, a case-hardened and chrome-plated piston rod, the Jewel rod gland assembly and adjustable floating cushions. It is the workhorse air cylinder for press feeds, clamping, indexing, gates, diverters and machine actuation.

Bore and pressure set the force. At 250 psi a 1-1/2 inch bore gives roughly 442 lbf on the extend stroke; retracting, the 5/8 inch rod takes away some piston area and drops that to roughly 365 lbf. Most shop air runs 80 to 100 psi, so expect nearer 140 to 175 lbf extending in a typical installation — size on your actual line pressure, not the cylinder’s maximum.
Rod diameter matters as much as bore on a 16 inch stroke. A 5/8 inch rod at full extension is long and slender, so a compressive load pushing back on the rod raises a real column-buckling limit, and a side load will wear the gland. Guide the load if it is not perfectly in line.
Series 2A cylinders carry adjustable cushions, which let you throttle the last part of the stroke so the piston decelerates instead of slamming the end cap. Set them before running at speed — unadjusted cushions are the usual reason a takeout cylinder sounds like it is being destroyed.
This is an air cylinder at 250 psi, not a hydraulic cylinder. Do not put it on a hydraulic circuit: typical hydraulic pressures are several times its rating.

The cylinder only. No mounting brackets, no clevis or rod eye, no fittings, no seal kit and no switches are included. This is a used takeout unit removed from service, not new stock — expect cosmetic wear and plan on a seal kit if it is going back into continuous duty.
Mount so the load acts along the rod axis; a tie-rod cylinder tolerates very little side load. Pipe both ports through speed controls rather than throttling the supply, set the cushions before running at full speed, and use clean, dry, lubricated air. Check the rod for scoring and the rod wiper for damage before commissioning — on a takeout these are what fail first.
Parker Series 2A shares the NFPA interchangeable envelope for 1-1/2 inch bore heavy-duty tie-rod air cylinders, so equivalent 250 psi NFPA cylinders from Bimba, Numatics, Norgren, Milwaukee Cylinder and SMC’s NFPA range will bolt into the same mounting for the same bore, stroke, rod diameter and mounting style. All four of those must match — a 1-1/2 inch bore cylinder with a different mounting style or rod thread is a related size, not a drop-in. A hydraulic 2H or 3L series cylinder of the same bore is a different, much higher pressure product.
