Decoding the order code

TPHU = top angle take-up housed unit. S2 = S-2000 series, Dodge’s heavy spherical roller mounted bearing line. 2 = 2 inches and 07 = 7/16 in, so 207 = 2-7/16 in bore. The suffixes are where money gets lost: an R after the size (TPHU-S2-207R, Dodge 070815) means the XTS triple-lip contact seal, and an E after the seal code (TPHU-S2-207RE, Dodge 070833) means the expansion version. This unit carries neither suffix, so it is the standard-seal, non-expansion build.

Top angle vs wide slot — the mistake to avoid:
TPHU is a top angle take-up, not a wide slot take-up. The wide-slot equivalent for the same 2-7/16 in S-2000 insert is WSTU-S2-207R (Dodge 070762) and it is a different casting with different rail engagement. The two are not interchangeable in a frame. Confirm which style your frame uses before ordering — this unit is built for TP40-series frames.

Expansion vs non-expansion

Non-expansion means the insert is axially located in the housing: it carries thrust and fixes the shaft position. A two-bearing shaft wants one located bearing and one free to float, otherwise thermal growth preloads the pair axially and shortens life dramatically. On a take-up carriage the shaft is usually short and both ends are often non-expansion, but if your shaft is long, runs hot, or the original part number ended in E, you want the expansion variant instead.

Why spherical roller here

39,000 lbf (173.5 kN) dynamic and 47,500 lbf (211.3 kN) static from a 2-7/16 in bore is roughly double what a ball-bearing take-up of the same shaft size will do, and the double row of spherical rollers self-aligns so the bearing tolerates the frame flex and shaft deflection that take-ups routinely produce. This is the part you choose for a bulk-material head or tail pulley, a heavy drag chain, or a screen shaft — anywhere the load is shock-laden and the geometry is never quite true.

Fitting notes

Setscrew shaft locking: clean and deburr the shaft, set final axial position, then tighten the setscrews alternately in stages and re-tighten after the first 24 hours of running. Grease fitting is provided for relubrication; in dirty or wet service grease often enough to keep a slight purge at the seals, because a small amount frequently beats a large amount rarely. Operating range is -20 to 200 °F (-29 to 93 °C).
