An SKF 24038 CC/C4W33 double-row spherical roller bearing from the wide 240 series. Straight bore, pressed steel cage, open on both faces, with a lubrication groove and three feed holes in the outer ring.
240 — spherical roller dimension series 240, the extra-wide series.
38 — bore code, giving a 190 mm bore.
CC — pressed steel cage.
C4 — internal clearance greater than C3.
W33 — lubrication groove in the outer ring plus three radial feed holes.
No K or K30 in the designation, so the bore is straight.
The two roller rows share a common spherical outer raceway, so the inner ring and roller set tilt within the outer ring and absorb shaft or housing misalignment. Two opposed contact lines carry thrust in both directions alongside very heavy radial load, and the 100 mm width of the 240 series puts more roller length under that load than a 222 or 223 ring on the same bore. C4 clearance leaves more room than C3 for thermal growth and for a heavy interference fit on the shaft, which is what a hot, heavily loaded position needs. The W33 groove and holes carry grease or oil through the housing directly into the roller path for relubrication in service.

A 24038 CC/W33 in CN clearance and a 24038 CC/C3W33 are different clearance grades, a 24038 CCK30/C4W33 has a 1:30 tapered bore and needs a sleeve, and a 24038 CA/C4W33 carries a machined brass cage, so all are related sizes rather than interchanges.
