What this part is

A Nachi 22209 double–row spherical roller bearing, 45 mm bore x 85 mm outside diameter x 23 mm wide, straight cylindrical bore, high–capacity internal design, with the W33 lubrication feature in the outer ring. Two rows of symmetrical barrel rollers run on a single concave outer raceway, so the inner ring, rollers and cage swivel as one assembly inside the outer ring. That gives heavy radial capacity, axial capacity in both directions, and real tolerance of shaft deflection and housing misalignment. Sold as 1 Pc.

Decoding the designation

222 — ISO dimension series for the wide, high–capacity double–row spherical roller family.
09 — bore size code, 45 mm bore.
E — high–capacity internal design: enlarged rollers on a flangeless inner ring, so more load out of the same envelope than the older design. Nachi also writes this as EX on some cartons.
W33 — lubrication groove machined around the outside diameter of the outer ring with three radial feed holes through to the rollers.
No clearance suffix, so normal radial internal clearance rather than C3 or C4.

What these specs mean in practice

W33 is the feature that decides whether this bearing suits the housing you are putting it in. If the housing has a grease fitting or an oil feed into the bore, the groove and its three holes are how lubricant reaches the rollers — straight in from the outside diameter, mid–width, where it does the most good. Fit a bearing without W33 into a plumbed housing and the grease has to fight its way in from the ends, which is exactly how relubricated bearings end up starved.

Normal clearance suits a position running near ambient on standard shaft and housing fits. If the machine originally used a C3 or C4 bearing — a hot fan, a dryer roll, a heavy interference fit — do not drop normal clearance in, because the inner ring grows in service and takes up the clearance until the rollers are preloaded.

The bore is straight, so this mounts directly on the shaft. Adapter sleeves belong only to the K and K30 tapered–bore versions of the same envelope.

Fitting notes

Press only on the ring that takes the interference fit and never through the rollers. The bearing self–aligns, so the housing bore does not have to be dead square to the shaft, but the outer ring still needs support across its full width or the roller ends will edge–load. If the housing has a relubrication port, line the W33 holes up with the feed — on a floating outer ring, that means checking the groove still registers with the port through the full range of axial travel.

Interchange guidance

The 45 x 85 x 23 spherical roller envelope is shared across the industry, so SKF 22209 E, FAG 22209–E1–XL, NSK 22209EAE4, NTN 22209EAD1, Koyo 22209RHRW33 and Timken 22209EJW33 all fit the same seat. Two things must match beyond the size: the W33 lubrication feature and the clearance class, which is normal here. A part with the same base number but no lube groove, or with C3 or C4 clearance, is a related size on the same envelope, not a like–for–like replacement. Nachi writes the same bearing as 22209EXW33 in current literature, so both forms are worth searching.
