| Compatible With Replaces | Related size, NOT an interchange: the straight-bore 22210, 22210-E1 and 22210 E have the same 50 x 90 x 23 mm envelope but mount directly on a 50 mm shaft. A tapered-bore bearing will not fit a plain shaft and a straight-bore bearing will not fit a sleeve, so the two are not substitutes for each other. |
| Additional Attributes | 1:12 tapered bore, non-separable assembly, self-aligning. Adapter or withdrawal sleeve required and not supplied. Running clearance is set at assembly by the distance the bearing is drawn up the taper, so it must be measured during fitting. H-series sleeve dimensions follow ISO 2982-1 and DIN 5415, so H310 sleeves are interchangeable across brands. |

A double-row spherical roller bearing, 50 mm bore x 90 mm outside diameter x 23 mm wide, in the ISO 222 dimension series, with a tapered bore. Two rows of barrel rollers share one spherical outer raceway, so the inner ring and roller set swivel bodily inside the outer ring. That self-aligning action absorbs shaft deflection and housing misalignment that would destroy a cylindrical roller or deep groove ball bearing in the same envelope, while carrying very heavy radial load and thrust in both directions.
222 — double-row spherical roller bearing, dimension series 22.
10 — bore code for a 50 mm bore.
E1 — Schaeffler’s increased-capacity internal design: longer symmetrical barrel rollers and no rigid central rib on the inner ring. On the E1 design the annular lubrication groove and the lubrication holes through the outer ring are standard and carry no suffix at all, which is why this bearing has the W33 feature without a W33 in its catalogue number. The listing carries the W33 form as well because that is how most of the industry writes it.
K — tapered bore, taper ratio 1:12. This is the critical character on the part number and it changes how the bearing mounts entirely.
There is no clearance suffix, so the bearing carries Normal (CN) radial internal clearance, and no cage suffix, so it has the standard pressed steel cage.
What these specs mean in practice — the tapered bore:
A 1:12 tapered bore does not fit a plain shaft. It has to be drawn up onto a matching taper, and that means one of two accessories, neither of which is included with this bearing:
An H310 adapter sleeve, which lets the bearing sit anywhere along a plain 45 mm shaft. Note the shaft is 45 mm, not 50 mm — the sleeve occupies the difference. H-series adapter sleeves are normally supplied complete with their KM10 locknut and MB10 lockwasher.
An AHX310 withdrawal sleeve, used where the bearing sits on a stepped 50 mm seat. Withdrawal sleeves are supplied without a nut, which has to be ordered separately.
The reason to accept that extra part is that the taper gives you direct control of internal clearance. How far you drive the bearing up the sleeve sets how much the inner ring expands, and therefore what running clearance you finish with. Measure it as you go; over-driving a tapered-bore bearing is the standard way of destroying one on the first run, because you preload it before it has even turned. Under-driving leaves the inner ring loose enough to creep on the sleeve.
The outer-ring groove and holes let grease or oil be fed straight into the roller rows through the housing rather than migrating in from the ends. Relubrication is the largest single factor in how long a spherical roller bearing lasts, so on anything greased in service this matters — provided the housing has a lubrication port lined up on the groove.
Schaeffler publishes the following for the 22210-E1-XL-K in current production:
Basic dynamic load rating C: 109 kN
Basic static load rating C0: 107 kN
Fatigue limit load Cu: 14.3 kN
Limiting speed: 9 800 rpm
Reference speed: 5 100 rpm
Mass: approximately 0.61 kg
Adapter sleeve: H310, for a 45 mm shaft
Withdrawal sleeve: AHX310, for a 50 mm seat
Sold as 1 Pc. One complete bearing: inner ring with both roller rows and cage, plus the outer ring. Spherical roller bearings are a non-separable assembly, so there is no cup or cone to buy alongside. No adapter sleeve, withdrawal sleeve, locknut or lockwasher is included — the tapered bore means you will need one of those to mount it, and it is a separate purchase.
Slide the sleeve onto the shaft, fit the bearing onto the sleeve taper, then draw it up with the locknut while measuring the reduction in radial internal clearance with a feeler gauge across the unloaded roller row. Work to the sleeve manufacturer’s clearance-reduction figure rather than to a torque value, because the taper multiplies axial travel into radial expansion and torque alone tells you nothing useful. Seat the outer ring squarely in the housing and let it take up its own alignment before the assembly is finally drawn down — clamping the outer ring off-neutral throws away the self-aligning capability. Align the housing lubrication port with the outer-ring groove and purge the groove with grease before the first run. A shaft seat machined to h9 is generally adequate under an adapter sleeve.
Dimensionally equivalent tapered-bore 22210 bearings include SKF 22210 EK, NSK 22210EAKE4, NTN 22210EAKW33, NTN-SNR 22210EAKW33, Timken 22210KEJW33, RHP 22210EKJW33, Nachi 22210EXK and Link-Belt 22210LBK. All of them mount on the same H310 adapter sleeve, because the H-series sleeve dimensions are set by ISO 2982-1 and DIN 5415 rather than by any one manufacturer. The lubrication codes differ but describe one feature: W33 on SKF, Timken, RHP, Nachi and Link-Belt, E4 on NSK, S on FAG, D1 on NTN Japan, B33 on legacy SNR. Two traps to know — SKF W on its own means the groove and holes are absent, and the straight-bore 22210 / 22210-E1 is a related size, not an interchange: same envelope, but it will not mount on a sleeve and this one will not mount on a plain 50 mm shaft.
