What these specs mean in practice

SKF rates this insert for constant or alternating direction of rotation, which is unusual for a setscrew unit and useful on reversing conveyors and shuttle drives — an eccentric collar unit is not a safe substitute there. The seal-plus-flinger arrangement on both sides is why these survive dusty and washdown-adjacent duty better than a plain shielded insert.

Ball bearing units accommodate moderate initial misalignment but normally do not permit axial displacement of the shaft, so treat this as a locating position and give the other end of the shaft somewhere to grow if it runs hot.

The 5,300 rpm limiting speed assumes an h6 shaft. On loose commercial shafting the insert can creep long before that figure, so size the shaft seat properly if you plan to run fast.

Bolt the flange to a flat, square face; a distorted mounting face preloads the spherical seat and eats the misalignment allowance. Position on the shaft, then torque both setscrews evenly. Spin the shaft by hand, then purge the grease path through the fitting before running.
