What this part is

A four-bolt flange mount ball bearing unit for a 1-5/16 in (33.34 mm) shaft. The insert is a 207 series wide-inner-ring ball bearing carried in a powder-coated cast iron four-bolt flange housing, locked to the shaft with 65° cup-point setscrews. It is a non-expansion unit and it is greasable, so it can be relubricated in service rather than run to failure and replaced.

The SC family is Dodge’s workhorse standard-duty ball line. It is not a heavy-duty spherical roller product like Dodge S-2000, and it is not intended for shock or high radial loads. Where it earns its place is cost, availability, and the fact that a setscrew unit goes on and comes off a plain shaft with a hex key and no machining.

Correcting the source data

Distributor data feeds for the Dodge SC ball family carry a temperature string reading “225 to 400 degrees F.” That figure is a data artifact — it appears verbatim on unrelated Dodge SC parts and it is not a Dodge rating. We have deliberately not published it as a specification. The realistic operating range for a Dodge SC ball unit with a nitrile contact seal is approximately −20 °F to 225 °F, governed by the elastomer seal and the grease, not the steel.

Speed is the other number worth pinning down. Dodge’s own SC 207 spec sheet gives 5,500 rpm; several distributor feeds show 3,500 rpm. We publish 5,500 rpm because it matches the manufacturer sheet, but if you are running near either figure, derate for load, seal drag and grease fill rather than trusting a catalog maximum.

What these specs mean in practice

The 3.63 in bolt centre-to-centre on a 4-3/4 in square flange is the dimension that decides whether this unit bolts to your machine. Check it against the existing hole pattern before anything else; the bore can be right and the pattern still wrong. The DualGuard single-lip nitrile contact seal with rubberized flinger is a genuine contact seal plus a slinger, so it handles ordinary plant dust and incidental splash. It is not a washdown or heavy-slurry seal — step up to a spherical roller unit with a TRIDENT seal for that.

Non-expansion means this unit locates the shaft axially. If your shaft runs warm or is long, the second bearing on that shaft should be an expansion type so thermal growth has somewhere to go. Two fixed bearings on a heating shaft fight each other and fail early.

Quantity and configuration

Four units in stock. That is enough to do both ends of two shafts, or to re-bearing a complete small conveyor and keep a spare on the shelf. Matched units from a single lot are worth having on a machine set — same production, same seal, same grease.

Fitting notes

Setscrew locking wants a clean, round shaft at nominal diameter with no burrs. Tighten the setscrews alternately to the recommended torque; a single overtightened screw pulls the insert off-centre and shows up as vibration. Relubricate through the grease fitting at intervals suited to speed and temperature rather than on a fixed calendar.
