The FAG 22216ES.TVPB.C3 is a double-row spherical roller bearing with a straight cylindrical bore, 80 mm bore by 140 mm outside diameter by 33 mm width. Two rows of symmetrical barrel rollers run on a common concave spherical raceway in the outer ring, so the inner ring and roller set can swivel relative to the housing and accommodate shaft deflection and housing misalignment. Being a double-row spherical roller bearing, it carries heavy radial load together with axial load in both directions.

Decoding the designation

222 is the heavy dimension series and 16 is the bore code, giving the 80 mm bore. ES, and the current-generation equivalent E1, denote the reinforced higher-capacity internal design. TVPB is a one-piece window cage in glass-fibre reinforced polyamide 6.6. C3 is radial internal clearance greater than normal. W33 is a lubrication groove in the outer ring together with three radial feed holes. The absence of a K means the bore is straight, so the bearing seats directly on a cylindrical shaft.

What these specs mean in practice

C3 clearance leaves more running room than the normal class, which suits a warm-running housing, an interference fit on both rings, or a shaft that grows relative to its housing under load. A polyamide window cage is light and quiet, has good elastic behaviour under shock, and is rated for continuous operation to about 120 °C. The W33 feature lets grease be introduced through the outer ring directly into the roller path, which is what makes a central relubrication line practical on a pillow block or gearbox housing.

Straight bore. The seat is the shaft itself, located axially by a shoulder, spacer or end cover. The tapered-bore counterpart in this family is the 22216ESK.TVPB, which mounts on an H316 adapter sleeve — a different part with a different seat diameter.

Fitting notes

Mounting is by press or induction heating onto the shaft seat, with force applied to the ring being fitted. The spherical outer raceway allows static misalignment to be taken up after the housing bolts are drawn down, so the outer ring settles in its seat before final tightening. The three W33 feed holes align with the housing grease port.

Interchange guidance

Direct equivalents in the same size, clearance and general design are the SKF 22216 E/C3, NSK 22216EAE4C3 and NTN 22216EWC3. Within FAG, 22216-E1-C3 is the same envelope with a stamped steel cage and 22216-E1A-M-C3 uses a machined brass cage; both are related sizes rather than exact matches for a polyamide-cage requirement, since the cage code changes the rating and the speed limit.
