What these specs mean in practice

A shield is a non-contact closure. It runs with a small clearance over the inner ring shoulder, so it keeps coarse debris out and grease in without adding drag or a rubbing temperature limit, which is why a shielded bearing keeps a higher speed rating than a contact-sealed one. With one face open the bearing can be flushed and relubricated from the open side and mounted with the shield facing the contamination. Internal clearance is normal, giving the standard fit-and-load behaviour with no allowance for a heavy interference fit or a large temperature gradient across the rings.

Fitting notes

Mounting force is applied to the ring being fitted, never through the balls, so the inner ring is driven or heated onto the shaft and the outer ring pressed into the housing separately. Interchange guidance

The same-spec equivalents are SKF 6320-Z, NSK 6320Z, FAG 6320.Z and Koyo 6320Z, all single-shielded at the same envelope. A 6320ZZ or 6320-2Z has shields on both faces and a 6320-2RS contact seals on both, so those are related sizes rather than substitutions: closure changes the speed rating and the relubrication route. A 6220 or 6420 at the same bore is a different dimension series and a different envelope.
