What these specs mean in practice

A barrel roller bearing carries heavy radial load and tolerates substantial shaft misalignment, because the single row of barrel rollers can swivel within the spherical outer raceway. With one row of rollers on a single raceway, axial capacity is negligible: this is a radial bearing, and axial location on the shaft is the job of a separate bearing in the arrangement. That is the practical difference from a double-row spherical roller bearing in the 222xx or 223xx series, which carries thrust in both directions from its two opposed roller rows.

1 Pc. Bearing only. The matching adapter sleeve is the FAG H217, which seats on a 75 mm shaft.

Fitting notes

The 1:12 tapered bore mounts either directly on a tapered shaft seat or on an adapter sleeve fitted to a plain cylindrical shaft. Driving the bearing further up the taper expands the inner ring and reduces radial internal clearance, so the drive-up distance sets the final clearance.

Interchange guidance

The straight-bore counterpart of this bearing is the 20217, dimensionally identical apart from the cylindrical bore. Double-row spherical roller bearings of similar envelope, such as a 22217 K, are a different bearing type with different axial behaviour and are related sizes rather than interchanges.
