Product Description

What this part is

An SKF 22215 C.Y.W33 double-row spherical roller bearing measuring 75 mm bore x 130 mm outside diameter x 31 mm wide. Straight (cylindrical) bore, open, a pressed brass window-type cage centred on the inner ring, a lubrication groove and three holes through the outer ring, and normal (CN) radial internal clearance. Spherical roller bearings carry very high radial load plus axial load in both directions, and the spherical outer raceway lets the inner-ring assembly swivel so the bearing self-aligns to shaft deflection or housing misalignment. Sold as 1 Pc.

Correcting the source data

Earlier copy on this listing read “75 mm in diameter and 130 mm in width”, which conflates three separate dimensions. Read it the right way: 75 mm is the bore, 130 mm is the outside diameter, 31 mm is the width. The designation settles it — the 15 in 22215 is the bore code, and 15 x 5 = 75 mm. Check your shaft against 75 mm and your housing bore against 130 mm.

Decoding the designation

222 — double-row spherical roller bearing, ISO dimension series 22.
15 — bore code; 15 x 5 = 75 mm bore.
C — SKF internal design: optimised internal geometry with a guide ring between the roller rows in place of a fixed central rib.
Y — pressed brass, window-type cage, centred on the inner ring. This is the detail that distinguishes CY from the far more common CC and CJ, which use stamped steel cages.
W33 — circumferential lubrication groove around the outer ring outside diameter plus three radial lubrication holes through to the raceway, so the bearing can be regreased in service through the housing.
No K in the designation — straight cylindrical bore. No adapter sleeve is involved.
No clearance suffix — normal (CN) radial internal clearance.

What these specs mean in practice

The pressed brass cage is the reason to look twice at this one. Brass sits between stamped steel and fully machined brass: it is more shock- and heat-tolerant than a steel cage and better behaved under marginal lubrication, but lighter and cheaper than a machined solid brass cage. A window-type pocket also holds each roller on all four sides, so the rollers stay square under acceleration. If your original was a CC or CJ steel-caged bearing, this drops into the same seat and is the more robust cage; if your original was a machined-brass CA, this is a step down in cage mass.

The C design puts a guide ring between the roller rows instead of a fixed central rib, so the full 31 mm of width goes into roller length rather than into a rib — that is where the load capacity comes from.

W33 only earns its keep if the housing has a matching grease feed. Line the housing port up with the outer ring groove and fresh grease is pushed straight into the centre of both roller rows — that symmetrical feed is what lengthens relubrication intervals. Feed the same bearing from the side and the groove does nothing.

Normal clearance is the right default for a bearing sitting in a housing at roughly uniform temperature with a standard shaft fit. Step up to C3 when the shaft fit is heavier than standard, when the inner ring will run appreciably hotter than the outer, or when the housing grows relative to the shaft; fitting a normal-clearance bearing where C3 was specified is the classic way to end up with no clearance left once the machine is hot.

Quantity and configuration

One bearing per sale — 1 Pc. Complete non-separable bearing: inner ring, two rows of spherical rollers, pressed brass window cage, guide ring and outer ring with the lubrication groove and three holes. No housing, no locknut and no sleeve are included, and none are needed for a cylindrical shaft seat. New old stock, supplied in an opened box.

Fitting notes

Straight-bore spherical roller bearings mount with an interference fit on the shaft. Heat the bearing or use a hydraulic fit-up tool; drive against the inner ring only, never through the outer ring, because the outer ring can swivel and will cock the rollers. Align the housing grease port with the outer ring groove before final assembly. Keep the axial component well below the radial load: with Fa/Fr above e = 0.22 the unloaded roller row can lose contact and skid. Grease fill is typically 30–50% of free space; overpacking a spherical roller bearing is a common cause of an early temperature rise.

Interchange guidance

The 75 x 130 x 31 mm 222-series envelope is industry-standard, so a 22215 in another brand’s nomenclature fits the same seat — but the cage is what varies, so decide whether you need brass. Same-envelope, same-clearance alternatives with a steel cage: SKF 22215 CC/W33 or 22215 CJ/W33, SKF’s current 22215 E/W33, FAG 22215-E1 or 22215 ES.TVPB.W33, NSK 22215 CDE4, NTN and NTN-SNR 22215 EAW33, Timken 22215 EJW33, Koyo 22215RHW33, RHP 22215 EJW33. With a machined brass cage: SKF 22215 CA/W33, FAG 22215-E1A-M or 22215 EAS.M, NSK 22215 CAME4, NTN 22215 EMW33, Timken 22215 EMW33, Koyo 22215RW33. Those are all size and design matches with a different cage material or construction, so carry the cage requirement across rather than assuming. A version with a K suffix has a 1:12 tapered bore and needs an H315 adapter sleeve (65 mm shaft); a C3 version is a related size with a different clearance class, not an equivalent.
