What this part is

An SKF 22213 CCKJ/W33C3 double-row spherical roller bearing, 65 mm tapered bore, 120 mm outside diameter, 31 mm width, open on both faces. Two rows of asymmetric barrel rollers run on a common spherical outer raceway, so the inner ring and roller assembly swivels within the outer ring and takes up shaft and housing misalignment without edge-loading the raceways. The bore is a 1:12 taper for adapter-sleeve mounting, and the outer ring carries the W33 lubrication feature.

Decoding the designation

The leading 222 is the ISO dimension series and 13 is the bore code, giving 65 mm. CC is the pressed-steel window-type cage guided on the inner-ring guide ring, and the trailing J is SKF’s pressed-steel cage execution marker, consistent with CC. K is the 1:12 tapered bore. C3 is radial internal clearance greater than normal. W33 is an annular groove in the outer ring with three radial feed holes through it. SKF catalogue form is 22213 CCKJ/W33C3.

What these specs mean in practice

C3 clearance leaves more radial slack than normal CN at rest. That extra allowance is what keeps a working clearance in the bearing once the taper drive-up has closed part of it and once an interference-fitted or thermally expanding inner ring closes more. On adapter-sleeve mountings, and where the inner ring runs hotter than the housing, C3 is the usual specification for that reason. The 222 series is the medium-width spherical roller family and carries a higher radial rating than a 213-series bearing of the same bore. A double-row spherical roller bearing takes radial load plus thrust in both axial directions.

Adapter sleeve requirement

The 1:12 tapered bore mounts on an SKF H2313 adapter sleeve, a separate item and not included. The sleeve presents a straight 60 mm shaft seat, one bore-code step below the 65 mm bearing bore, and is drawn up with a KM13 locknut and an MB13 lockwasher, neither of which is included. The amount of drive-up on the taper sets the mounted radial internal clearance, starting from the C3 unmounted figure.

Fitting notes

The sleeve is positioned on the shaft and the bearing is driven up the taper while radial internal clearance is measured with a feeler gauge between the unloaded top roller and the outer raceway. Mounted clearance rather than shaft interference is the controlling figure on a taper-bore spherical roller bearing. The outer ring locates in the housing bore with the W33 groove aligned to the housing lubrication port.

Interchange guidance

22213 CCKJ/W33C3, 22213CCKJW33C3 and 22213-CC-K-J-C3-W33 are the same bearing written three ways. 22213 CCK/W33 in normal CN clearance is a related size, not an interchange, since the clearance class differs; so is the straight-bore 22213 CCJ/W33C3, which mounts directly on the shaft with no sleeve.
