What this part is

A FAG 2206 double–row self–aligning ball bearing, 30 mm bore x 62 mm outside diameter x 20 mm wide, straight cylindrical bore, open, with a glass–fibre reinforced polyamide cage and normal clearance. Two rows of balls run in two deep grooves in the inner ring and on one common sphered raceway in the outer ring. Because that outer raceway is a section of a sphere, the inner ring and ball set tilt freely inside the outer ring — so the bearing does not care if the shaft deflects or if the two housings are out of line. Sold as 1 Pc.

Decoding the designation

22 — the wide self–aligning ball series. The 12xx series is the narrow equivalent on the same bore and outside diameter.
06 — bore size code, 30 mm bore.
TV — solid cage in glass–fibre reinforced polyamide. FAG writes the current version of this bearing as 2206–TVH.
No K suffix, so the bore is straight and cylindrical rather than tapered.
No clearance suffix, so normal (CN) radial internal clearance.

What these specs mean in practice

Self–aligning ball bearings exist for one job: shafts that will not stay straight. Long conveyor shafts, agricultural drives, fan and blower shafts, textile machinery, anything where the two housings are bolted to a frame that flexes. Nothing else forgives misalignment this cheaply. The trade–off is thrust: it will take a little axial load, but it is not a locating bearing and should not be loaded hard in thrust.

Note that the static rating is much lower than the dynamic rating on this family. That is correct and published, not a typo — the sphered outer raceway has a smaller contact area than a deep–groove raceway, so the bearing handles a lot of running load and comparatively little standing shock load. Worth planning for if the machine sits loaded or gets knocked while stopped.

Normal clearance suits a position running close to ambient on standard shaft and housing fits. If the machine originally carried a C3 bearing, do not substitute normal clearance: the inner ring grows in service and takes the clearance up until the balls are preloaded.

The polyamide cage runs quiet and light but is rated for roughly 120 °C continuous. Above that, a pressed steel cage version of the same bearing is the right choice.

Quantity and configuration

One bearing per order — 1 Pc. A complete non–separable bearing ships: outer ring, both ball rows, cage and inner ring. Because the bore is cylindrical, no adapter sleeve or lock nut is needed and none is included.

Fitting notes

Press only on the ring taking the interference fit, and never through the balls or the polyamide cage. If you heat the inner ring to mount it, keep the bearing below about 120 °C or the cage will suffer. The outer ring is deliberately free to tilt — do not try to clamp it square or shim it into line, because that throws away the self–aligning function.

Interchange guidance

The 30 x 62 x 20 self–aligning ball envelope is standard, so SKF 2206 ETN9, NSK 2206ETN, NTN 2206, Koyo 2206 and NKE 2206–TV all fit the same seat. FAG’s own current number is 2206–TVH. Match the clearance class — this one is normal, so a C3 2206 is a related size on the same envelope rather than a like–for–like replacement — and match the bore type, since the 2206 K is the tapered–bore version that needs an H306 adapter sleeve and will not sit on a plain shaft. The 1206 is the narrow–series bearing on the same bore and outside diameter, so it is a related size, not an equivalent.
