Dodge P2B-E-204 Type E two-bolt pillow block, a complete mounted bearing unit. Bore / Shaft Size: 2-1/4 in (57.15 mm). Housing Style: two-bolt base pillow block, solid one-piece cast iron. Insert: double-row tapered roller. Series: Dodge Type E. Locking Method: set screw. Expansion Type: non-expansion (locating). Dodge Stock Number: 060375. The carton is marked TYPE E PILLOW BLOCK 2B, SIZE 2-1/4 and STOCK # 060375. The unit is bagged and unused with its red Dodge grease-fitting tag attached.
060375 is the Dodge stock or order number, printed on the carton as STOCK #. It is a flat sequential number and it is what a distributor system and Dodge’s order desk key on. P2B-E-204 is the catalogue designation, and it is self-decoding: housing style, bearing family, bore. Both numbers point at this part and both are searched: 060375, P2BE204, P2B-E-204 and P2B E 204 all land here.
P2B: pillow block, two-bolt base, cast iron. Base mount. E: Dodge Type E mounted bearing family, a heavy-duty double-row tapered roller unit. 204: the bore, read as whole inches then sixteenths — 2 in plus 4/16 in, giving 2-1/4 in (57.15 mm). The same scheme runs through the family: 203 is 2-3/16 in, 207 is 2-7/16 in, 208 is 2-1/2 in, 211 is 2-11/16 in, 212 is 2-3/4 in, 215 is 2-15/16 in, 300 is 3 in. Dodge nomenclature reserves P2B for two-bolt-base pillow blocks and P4B for the four-bolt-base version; flange units carry different prefixes — F4S four-bolt square, F4R and F3R round, FC piloted flanged cartridge.
Bore / Shaft Size: 2-1/4 in (57.15 mm). Overall Housing Length: 9-5/8 in. Mounting Bolt Centres: 7-5/8 in minimum to 7-7/8 in maximum. Mounting Bolt Diameter: 5/8 in. Number of Mounting Holes: 2. Weight: approximately 21 lb. Grease Fitting: 1/8-27 NPT hydraulic, standard on every size in this family. Relubricatable: yes. Locking to Shaft: set screw. Housing Material: gray cast iron. Design Units: inch. Number of Rows: 2. Rolling Elements: tapered rollers.
A tapered roller’s raceways are cones, so the contact force carries both a radial and an axial component and one bearing takes combined radial and thrust load without a separate thrust arrangement. Two rows back to back, as Type E is built, take thrust in both axial directions while carrying a heavy radial load. Rollers contact along a line rather than at a point, so radial capacity for a given housing envelope is well above a ball unit’s. Dodge markets the Type E line on having among the highest load ratings in mounted bearings.
The applications this suits: conveyor pulleys under belt tension, screw conveyors and augers where the flight thrusts down the shaft, mixers and agitators, bucket elevators, fans and blowers, and any drive with a bevel or helical gear or a crowned pulley throwing axial load into the bearing. The trade is misalignment tolerance — tapered rollers accept only a small amount of shaft misalignment, so bearing seats want to be coplanar and the pedestals rigid. A Type E is also heavier and dearer than a ball unit for purely light radial duty.
Expansion Type: non-expansion. This is the locating bearing on a shaft — it fixes axial position and takes thrust. On a shaft carried in two or more mounted units, one bearing locates and the rest float, so the floating positions take the expansion version of the housing. Dodge’s convention for this family is that non-expansion is furnished as standard and expansion versions carry a trailing E on the designation.
Dodge’s current catalogue lists the 2-1/4 in Type E two-bolt pillow block as P2B-E-204R under stock number 023012, at 21 lb. This unit is the earlier P2B-E-204 under stock number 060375, and the carton carries the older Dodge / Reliance Electric printing. The R suffix marks Dodge’s later Type E-XTRA revision of the insert. Housing dimensions and bolt patterns carried across the revision.
One unit. It is a complete mounted bearing — cast iron housing with the double-row tapered roller insert installed. Unit Quantity: 1 Pc.
A pillow block carries load down through its base. Where the load pulls the housing up off the base, the mounting bolts, the pedestal and the housing’s own capacity govern rather than the bearing rating. Bearing seats are flat, coplanar and rigid, since a tapered roller insert accepts less misalignment than a ball or spherical one. The set screws lock the insert to the shaft, and set-screw locking dimples the shaft. Grease goes in through the 1/8-27 NPT fitting.
Search and cross-reference forms: P2B-E-204, P2BE204, P2B E 204, P2B-E-204R, 060375, 60375, 023012, Type E 204, Type E-XTRA 204, 2-1/4 Type E pillow block. Within the Dodge family the four-bolt-base version for this bore is P4B-E-204R (stock 023023) and the split-housing version is SP2B-E-204R (stock 023059, approximately 19 lb); the split housing allows a bearing change without pulling the shaft. Neighbouring bores in the same housing family are P2B-E-203R at 2-3/16 in and P2B-E-207R at 2-7/16 in. Dodge EP2B-S2 units take a double-row spherical roller S-2000 insert in a housing built to Type E dimensions, which trades the tapered roller’s two-way thrust for self-alignment and higher radial capacity in an existing Type E base.
Type E is an industry housing standard rather than a Dodge-only design, so 2-1/4 in Type E two-bolt pillow blocks to the same pattern are built by other makers under their own numbers — Timken lists the pattern as E-P2B-TRB-2 1/4, and Link-Belt, Sealmaster, Baldor and Browning build to the same envelope. Brand lineage for these numbers: Reliance Electric to Rockwell Automation to Baldor to ABB, now Dodge Industrial under RBC Bearings. Dodge is a separate company from Regal Rexnord, which holds the Link-Belt and Rexnord mounted bearing lines.
