Decoding the designation

22216 gives the 222 dimension series and bore code 16 for the 80 mm bore. C denotes the internal design with a flangeless inner ring and a guide ring centred on the outer ring raceway. K is the 1:12 tapered bore. J is the pressed steel cage. C3 is radial internal clearance greater than normal.

What these specs mean in practice

The sphered outer raceway lets the roller set swivel, so the bearing is self-aligning and absorbs shaft deflection and housing misalignment up to about 1.5° with almost no rise in friction or temperature. Being double row, it carries axial load in both directions as well as heavy radial load. C3 clearance leaves extra room at assembly, which suits a tapered-bore mounting where drive-up on the sleeve reduces clearance, and suits a hot inner ring in service.

Fitting notes

Clearance is set by the drive-up distance on the adapter sleeve, measured either as axial advance or as residual radial clearance with a feeler gauge, and the C3 starting clearance defines the target. The bearing can also be mounted directly on a 1:12 tapered shaft journal where one exists.
