What this part is

A single angular contact ball bearing in the 60 mm bore × 95 mm outside diameter × 18 mm width envelope, the ISO 7012 size. Single row, universally ground so it can be matched with a like bearing.

Decoding the designation

In the RHP scheme the 7012 gives the ISO size, C is a 15° contact angle, SUL is a single universally ground bearing set to light preload, and P6 is the precision class equivalent to ABEC 3. Note that P6 is ABEC 3 rather than ABEC 5; ABEC 5 is the P5 class.

What these specs mean in practice

A 15° contact angle carries more radial load and runs faster than a 25° or 40° bearing of the same size, and carries correspondingly less thrust. Light preload removes internal play and fixes the contact angle while adding the least heat of the three preload grades, which makes axial position and runout repeatable without penalising speed. P6 is a general-precision class, a step below the P4 and P5 spindle classes, which places this bearing in accurate machinery duty rather than in a high-speed grinding spindle. At 18 mm wide on a 60 mm bore this is a slim-section bearing from the 70 dimension series, specified where axial space in the housing is short.

Thrust direction

A single-row angular contact bearing carries radial load together with thrust in one direction only. Axial location in both directions comes from mounting a second bearing opposed to this one.

Fitting notes

Universal grinding means any two bearings of the same designation and preload class stack back-to-back, face-to-face or in tandem and arrive at the specified light preload without shimming or hand grinding. Mounting is against a square, clean shoulder, and the preload class is only realised when the outer ring seats fully in the housing bore.

Interchange guidance

RHP designations cross-reference directly to NSK, which acquired RHP and continued the numbering. The same-spec equivalent is NSK 7012CTSULP6. Bearings sharing the 60 × 95 × 18 mm envelope with a different contact angle, preload grade or class, such as a 7012 at 40°, a medium-preload version, or a P4 or P5 class version, are related sizes rather than substitutions.
