What this part is

A Consolidated RA-106 insert ball bearing from the RA100 series — the rotating cartridge only, for a 1-3/8 inch shaft. It has an extended inner ring drilled for an eccentric locking collar, rubber seals on both sides, and a spherical (crowned) outer race that swivels in a matching housing seat so the mounted unit it goes into is alignable.

What ships and what does not

Inserts only, four of them, each with its eccentric collar. There is no housing, no cap and no bolts. Use them to rebuild existing mounted units whose housings are still sound — pillow blocks, two- or four-bolt flanges or take-up blocks with a spherical insert seat. If you need complete assembled units, those are a different order code.

Correcting the source data

The title previously gave the bore as 1-3/16 in. It is 1-3/8 in. In the RA100 series the last two digits are the shaft size in sixteenths of an inch, so 106 reads as 1 and 6/16, which is 1-3/8 in (1.375 in). A 1-3/16 in insert would be an RA-103. Those two are 3/16 in apart, so check the shaft before ordering.

Decoding the designation

RA = Consolidated insert ball bearing with an extended inner ring and eccentric locking collar. 1 = shaft one inch or over. 06 = the additional sixteenths, giving 1-3/8 in. Consolidated Bearings is a US importer brand whose RA series follows the common insert-bearing interchange, so equivalents are widely available.

What these specs mean in practice

An eccentric collar grips by cam action and leaves the shaft unmarked, so plain cold-drawn shafting is acceptable and the insert can be repositioned without leaving setscrew dents. The trade-off is direction sensitivity: the collar is tightened with the direction of rotation and can walk loose on a drive that reverses hard under load. Use a setscrew insert in that service.

Rubber contact seals on both sides keep water and fine dust out better than shields, at the cost of a little drag and a lower speed ceiling. That makes these suitable for washdown-adjacent and dirty conveyor work rather than high-speed positions.

Because the outer race is spherical, the insert must go into a housing with a matching crowned seat. It will not sit correctly in a cylindrical-bore housing, and it is not a substitute for a plain deep groove ball bearing of similar nominal size.

Fitting notes

Clean the housing seat so the insert can still swivel after fitting. Slide the insert and collar onto the shaft, set the housing position, then turn the collar in the direction of shaft rotation until it cams tight and tighten its setscrew onto the collar — not onto the shaft. Rotate by hand to check for drag before final tightening.

Interchange guidance

Role-equivalent eccentric-collar inserts at 1-3/8 in bore include Link-Belt UG-222, SealMaster ER-series and generic UEL-series inserts. Fit is governed by insert outside diameter and overall width, not by bore, so measure your housing seat before buying across brands.
