Large bore, small cross section, low weight
Thin section designs trade load capacity for envelope: cross section stays constant as bore diameter grows, saving weight and radial space in indexers, rotary tables, optical mounts, and robotics. Current listings run inch straight bores from 2.5000 in to 4-1/4 in with widths as small as 0.3125 in, open construction, along with older FAG L-series numbers. These are sensitive to housing and shaft roundness because the rings are too thin to correct a poor bore, so inspect the mating surfaces before pressing one in. Unmarked bearing? ID, OD, and width identify it in nearly every case. For tolerance-critical spindle work, look at precision ball bearings instead.
