A FAG thin section ball bearing with a 4-3/4 in bore, a 5-3/8 in outside diameter and a 5/16 in width. Thin section bearings put a very small cross-section around a large bore so that a rotating joint can be built into a light structure: the whole ring wall here is 5/16 in thick radially, the same as the width, which is the defining square cross-section of the family. Open construction, no seals or shields.
The cross-section is square at 5/16 in by 5/16 in. That relationship is what makes the family interchangeable across brands by envelope: half the difference between the outside diameter and the bore equals the width, so 5-3/8 in less 4-3/4 in, halved, gives 5/16 in. The corresponding Kaydon Reali-Slim size is the KB series, whose bore code 047 is the 4.750 in bore.
A radial Conrad race carries radial load with a modest amount of thrust in either direction and tolerates a large bore on a thin housing wall, which is the reason the family exists. Because the rings are thin they take their shape from the seats they are clamped into, so bore roundness and seat flatness govern the running accuracy far more than they do on a standard-section bearing. Load capacity is set by the ball size the 5/16 in section allows, so a larger cross-section series of the same bore carries substantially more.
1 Pc. Single bearing, open both faces. No seals, shields, snap ring, spacer or housing.
Thin section rings are supported over their full circumference; a continuous seat and a full-face clamp keep the raceway round. Mounting is by light press or clamped between machined shoulders rather than by heating, and the rings are handled by the outside diameter rather than levered on the raceway shoulders.
The direct equivalent is Kaydon KB047CP0, with RBC KB047CP0 and Silverthin SB047CP0 to the same envelope, section and contact type. A KA, KC, KD, KF or KG number at the same bore is a related size, not a substitution, because the cross-section changes and with it both the envelope and the rating. An A or X type letter at the same bore is angular contact or four-point contact, a different bearing.
