What this part is

An SKF 22213 CCK/C3 W33 double-row spherical roller bearing. Bore 65 mm on a 1:12 taper, outside diameter 120 mm, width 31 mm, open on both faces. Two rows of barrel-shaped rollers share one spherical raceway in the outer ring, so the inner ring and roller set swivel bodily inside the outer ring and the bearing carries load through shaft deflection and housing misalignment.

Decoding the designation

The 222 dimension series is the wider, higher-capacity spherical roller series, and the bore code 13 gives 65 mm. CC is the pressed steel cage with an inner-ring guide ring. K specifies a 1:12 tapered bore. C3 is radial internal clearance greater than normal, and W33 is the lubrication groove machined around the outer ring together with three radial feed holes through it.

Tapered bore and adapter sleeve

A tapered-bore spherical roller bearing seats on a matching 1:12 taper. On a plain cylindrical shaft that taper is provided by an adapter sleeve, which is a separate part. For a 65 mm bearing bore the sleeve is an H313, whose own shaft seat is 60 mm, supplied with a KM 13 locknut and an MB 13 lockwasher. Driving the bearing further up the sleeve reduces its radial internal clearance, which is how the mounted clearance is set to a measured figure rather than accepted as delivered.

What these specs mean in practice

A double-row spherical roller bearing carries very heavy radial load and takes thrust in both directions, and it tolerates misalignment as a normal service condition. C3 clearance gives more running room than normal, which suits a hot inner ring, a heavy taper mount or a heavily loaded seat — and on a taper-bore bearing the wider starting clearance is also what gives room to drive the bearing far enough up the sleeve to grip. The W33 groove and holes let grease reach the rollers through the housing with the bearing in place.

Fitting notes

Radial internal clearance is measured with a feeler at the unloaded roller row before mounting and again as the bearing is driven up the taper, and the reduction from the first figure is what sets the fit. The sleeve is locked with the KM nut and the MB washer tab, and the housing is drilled to register with one of the three W33 outer-ring holes.

Interchange guidance

Same-envelope 65 x 120 x 31 mm tapered-bore spherical rollers at equivalent clearance include FAG 22213-E1-XL-K-C3, NSK 22213CDKC3 and NTN 22213BKD1C3, all with lubrication groove and holes. The straight-bore SKF 22213 CC/W33 shares the envelope but mounts directly on a cylindrical shaft with no sleeve, and the 22213 CCK/C4 W33 differs in clearance; both are related sizes rather than substitutions.
