A double-row spherical roller bearing in the ISO 222-series, 80 mm bore x 140 mm outside diameter x 33 mm width, with a 1:12 tapered bore. The two rows of barrel rollers run in a common spherical outer-ring raceway, which is what makes the bearing self-aligning: the inner ring, rollers and cage can swivel a couple of degrees inside the outer ring without any loss of contact geometry. That matters because a long shaft under load deflects, and housing bores are rarely perfectly coaxial. A cylindrical roller bearing in the same envelope would take that misalignment as edge loading on the roller ends and spall out early. A spherical roller simply follows the shaft.
222 — ISO double-row spherical roller bearing, dimension series 22. 16 — bore code, 16 x 5 = 80 mm bore. C — original SKF internal design: machined roller-guided cage with an inner-ring centre guide ring. CC is the later evolution of the same design with a reduced-section guide ring for lower friction. K — tapered bore, 1:12 taper. J — pressed sheet-steel cage (generic ISO cage code).
The mixed suffix string 22216 CKJ is an unusual combination against modern SKF catalogue practice, which pairs the CC design with a machined or steel cage code rather than a bare J. It is the designation as marked on this specific piece, which is how legacy and transitional-era stock is often stamped.
Tapered bore — an adapter sleeve is also required:
A 1:12 tapered bore does not mount on a plain straight shaft. It needs either a shaft machined with a matching 1:12 taper seat, or an adapter sleeve. For a 22216 K the matching sleeve is an H 316, which drops the mounting diameter to a 70 mm straight shaft; HE 316 is the variant used where the shaft diameter equals the bearing bore. Removal is via the AH / AHX withdrawal sleeve series. The upside of the taper is a genuine interference fit anywhere along a plain shaft with no shoulder machining, and radial internal clearance set by how far the sleeve is driven up — which is why tapered-bore spherical rollers dominate plummer-block and pillow-block practice.
Self-aligning — tolerates shaft deflection and housing misalignment that would destroy a cylindrical or a deep-groove ball bearing in the same seat.
Pressed-steel cage (J) — lighter and lower-cost than a machined brass cage, and entirely adequate for steady radial duty. A machined brass cage is generally preferred where there is heavy vibration, shock reversal, or high temperature.
No W33 groove on this piece — there is no annular groove or lubrication holes in the outer ring, so relubrication reaches the bearing by another route. A housing that feeds grease through the outer ring calls for a W33 variant instead.

Internal design, cage material and clearance class differ between them, so clearance and cage govern whether any of these is a drop-in. MRC part numbers cross into SKF; Torrington crosses into Timken.
