Decoding the designation

NUP is the axially locating design: two integral flanges on the outer ring, one integral flange on the inner ring and one loose flange ring. EC marks the enhanced capacity execution, with a revised internal geometry and a larger complement of longer rollers. P is the glass-fibre reinforced polyamide cage. The 2 series and bore code 17 give the 85 mm bore in the ISO 22 dimension family.

What these specs mean in practice

Cylindrical rollers give this bearing a line contact with the raceways, so it carries far higher radial load than a ball bearing of the same envelope: dynamic load rating 190 kN, static load rating 200 kN. The NUP flange arrangement adds location in both axial directions, which lets a single bearing act as the locating position on a shaft. Reference speed 4,800 rpm, limiting speed 5,300 rpm. The polyamide cage is light, quiet and low friction, and suits operating temperatures to about 120 °C in continuous service.

Bore form

Straight cylindrical bore, mounted directly on the shaft seat with an interference fit. No adapter sleeve is involved.

Quantity and configuration

One bearing. The design is separable: the inner ring with its loose flange ring comes apart from the outer ring and roller set, which simplifies mounting and allows the rings to be fitted at their seats independently.

Fitting notes

Rings are mounted separately, then brought together axially. Heat mounting of the inner ring to 80–100 °C is common at this size. Because the polyamide cage softens at high temperature, induction or oil bath heating is limited to the inner ring alone.

Interchange guidance

Direct same-design equivalents are the FAG NUP217-E-TVP2, NSK NUP217ET and Timken NUP217. An NU 217 ECP shares the 85 x 150 x 28 mm envelope but has no inner ring flanges and provides no axial location, making it a related size rather than an interchange. An NJ 217 ECP locates in one direction only.
