Cross Reference 1CIMR-G3A41P5 (Yaskawa Varispeed 616G3, same 1.5 kW 400 V class rating, non-US build)

Data-quality note:
This listing previously recorded the brand as HP. That is a mis-read of the horsepower rating on the nameplate: the maker is Saftronics Inc. The brand field has been corrected. The drive’s own nameplate and casework confirm it.

What the nameplate says:
Read directly from the rating plate on this unit:

MODEL: CIMR-G3U41P5 (spec code 41P51E)A.C. INPUT: 380-460 V, 50/60 Hz, 3 phase, 6.0 AA.C. OUTPUT: 0-460 V max, 0-400 Hz, 3 phase, 2.0 HP continuous at variable torque and 2.0 HP continuous at constant torqueEnclosure NEMA Type 1UL Listed Industrial Control Equipment, file E131457; CSA LR56711Wiring: 75 C copper conductors only. Suitable for use on a circuit capable of delivering not more than 5,000 rms symmetrical amperes, 460 volts maximum – i.e. a 5 kA short-circuit current rating. Power-terminal torque 1.30 N.m; 14 AWG for this frame size.Serial No. 109379

Reading the model number:
CIMR is Yaskawa’s inverter prefix and G3 is the Varispeed 616G3 platform; U denotes the North American build, 4 the 400 V class, and 1P5 the 1.5 kW rating (the same convention makes 45P5 a 5.5 kW / 7.5 HP unit). Saftronics sold this platform in the United States as the G3+ Adjustable Frequency AC Drive – the front cover on this unit carries the G3+ badge. So a CIMR-G3U41P5 and a Yaskawa Varispeed 616G3 CIMR-G3A41P5 are the same 1.5 kW 400 V class drive with different market branding and firmware defaults. That matters when you are searching: parameter lists, keypad procedures and fault codes published for the 616G3 apply here.

Why the specs matter:
2.0 HP at both variable and constant torque. Most drives derate for constant-torque duty. This one is rated the same for both, so a conveyor, extruder or positive-displacement pump gets the full 2 HP without stepping up a frame size.0-400 Hz output. Four times base frequency is unusually wide for a drive of this era and opens up high-speed spindle, centrifuge and blower work that a 0-60 Hz or 0-120 Hz drive cannot reach. Above base speed you are in constant-power territory, so the motor and its bearings, not the drive, become the limit.5 kA SCCR at 460 V. This is the number a panel builder or AHJ will ask for. If the available fault current at the drive’s terminals exceeds 5 kA, the branch circuit must be protected to bring it within that figure.NEMA Type 1. Indoor, drip-shield enclosure – no washdown, no dust-tight rating. It mounts on the two integral top-and-bottom brackets with three conduit knockouts in the base, as photographed.

Condition and configuration reality:
This is a used drive with the original moulded cover and integral keypad/display fitted. The casework has ordinary shelf and service discolouration. It is supplied as the drive only: no motor, no line reactor, no braking resistor, no manual. Parameters will be whatever the last machine left in them, so plan on an initialisation and a fresh motor setup rather than a drop-in swap.

Interchange and obsolescence:
Saftronics has been out of the drive business for years and the 616G3/G3+ platform is long discontinued by Yaskawa. There is no like-for-like modern replacement – the nearest current equivalents are Yaskawa’s GA500 or A1000-family 400 V 1.5 kW drives, which will do the job electrically but have entirely different terminal layouts, parameter numbers and dimensions. For an in-service machine where the panel wiring, the control scheme and the enclosure cutout all match, a same-model used or new-old-stock drive is usually the cheaper and faster fix, which is precisely what this is. Related Saftronics/Yaskawa numbers in the same family and voltage class include CIMR-G3U42P2 (2.2 kW / 3 HP), CIMR-G3U43P7, CIMR-G3U45P5 and CIMR-G3U47P5; the nameplate torque table on this unit lists frames 41P5E, 42P2E, 43P7E, 45P5E and 47P5E.
