An SNR 22217 EA.K.B33.J40 double-row spherical roller bearing measuring 85 mm bore x 150 mm outside diameter x 36 mm wide. This is NTN-SNR’s ULTAGE high-capacity design with a 1:12 tapered bore, a lubrication groove and three holes through the outer ring, and C4 radial internal clearance. Spherical roller bearings carry very high radial load plus axial load in both directions, and the spherical outer raceway lets the inner-ring assembly swivel so the bearing self-aligns to shaft deflection or housing misalignment. Sold as 1 Pc.
222 — double-row spherical roller bearing, ISO dimension series 22.
17 — bore code; 17 x 5 = 85 mm bore.
EA — NTN-SNR ULTAGE increased-capacity design: symmetrical rollers, no central inner-ring rib (so the rollers run longer and lubricant flows through the middle of the bearing), optimised internal geometry to cut friction and heat, and steel stabilised for use to +200 °C. The A specifies two window-type drawn steel cages centred on the ground surface of the inner ring, each roller guided by a four-tang pocket.
K — tapered bore, taper 1:12.
B33 — SNR’s code for a lubrication groove and holes in the outer ring. It is the direct equivalent of the industry W33 code, which is why the title carries both.
J40 — SNR clearance and precision code. The first digit is the ISO radial internal clearance class, so 4 = C4, greater than C3. The second digit is the ISO precision class, so 0 = normal class. J20 = C2, J30 = C3, J40 = C4, J50 = C5.
The tapered bore is the single most important thing to get right on this listing. A 1:12 taper is a mounting system, not a shaft fit. On a plain cylindrical shaft the bearing sits on an H317 adapter sleeve (or is withdrawn with an AH317 withdrawal sleeve), and the sleeve is what sets the interference: you drive the bearing up the taper until the internal clearance has been reduced by the amount the design calls for, then lock it with a KM17 locknut and MB17 lockwasher. Because the sleeve carries the shaft, the shaft seat under an H317 is 75 mm, not 85 mm. Alternatively the bearing mounts directly on a machined 1:12 tapered shaft seat with no sleeve. Either way, drive-up and residual clearance must be measured — driven too far up the taper the bearing is preloaded, runs hot and fails early.
C4 and the tapered bore work together, and C4 rather than C3 tells you something about the intended duty. Drive-up on a taper deliberately consumes internal clearance, and a heavy interference fit plus a large inner-to-outer ring temperature difference consumes more. C4 is what leaves usable operating clearance in that stack — the usual reasons are a hot housing, a heavily preloaded adapter fit, or a shaft that grows relative to its housing. Fitting C4 into a lightly loaded position where normal clearance was specified leaves the rollers free to skid rather than roll.
The ULTAGE EA design is where the load rating comes from. Deleting the central rib lets both roller rows use the full width, and the window-type pressed steel cage is stiffer than a conventional pressed cage while staying light. That is what puts the dynamic rating at 324 kN in a 36 mm wide envelope.
The lubrication groove and holes only pay off if the housing has a matching grease feed. Line the housing port up with the outer ring groove and fresh grease is pushed straight into the centre of both roller rows, which is what lengthens relubrication intervals. Feed it from the side instead and the groove does nothing.

One bearing per sale — 1 Pc. What ships is the complete non-separable bearing: inner ring with the 1:12 tapered bore, two rows of symmetrical rollers, two window-type pressed steel cages, and outer ring with the lubrication groove and three holes. The H317 adapter sleeve, AH317 withdrawal sleeve, KM17 locknut, MB17 lockwasher and housing are separate items and are not included. If your shaft is not already machined with a 1:12 taper, you need the sleeve to mount this bearing. New old stock, supplied in an opened box.
Measure the unmounted radial internal clearance with a feeler gauge before you start, then drive the bearing up the taper and re-measure until the clearance reduction matches the mounting table for the fit you want. Support and drive against the inner ring only; the outer ring swivels and will cock the rollers if used to drive the assembly. Align the housing grease port with the outer ring groove before final assembly. Keep the axial component well below the radial load: with Fa/Fr above e = 0.22 the unloaded roller row can lose contact and skid, so check the load case rather than the rating alone. Grease fill is typically 30–50% of free space.
The 85 x 150 x 36 mm 222-series envelope is industry-standard, and the tapered-bore version takes the same H317 sleeve across every brand. Direct equivalents for a tapered-bore, steel-cage, relubricatable 22217 with C4 clearance: NTN 22217EAKW33C4 (the same ULTAGE design under the NTN name), SKF 22217 EK/C4W33, FAG 22217-E1-K-C4, NSK 22217 CDKE4C4, Timken 22217 KEJW33C4, Koyo 22217RHKW33C4, RHP 22217EKJW33C4. 22217E is carried on this listing as the E-design base number for the same envelope. A version without the K suffix has a straight cylindrical bore and needs no sleeve; a version without B33 or W33 cannot be regreased through the housing; a brass-caged version carries EM in SNR and NTN nomenclature.
