What this part is

A 222-series double-row spherical roller bearing in the ISO 22224 envelope — 120 mm bore, 215 mm outside diameter, 58 mm width — with a tapered bore. Two rows of barrel rollers share one spherical outer raceway, so the inner ring and roller set swivel inside the outer ring. That swivel is the point of the family: it absorbs shaft deflection and housing misalignment that would edge-load a cylindrical roller bearing and shorten its life dramatically, while still carrying very high radial load and useful axial load in both directions.

What a tapered bore buys you, and what it costs:
A 1:12 tapered bore lets you set the bearing’s radial internal clearance during mounting instead of accepting whatever a fixed interference fit produces. Drive the inner ring further up the taper and the ring expands, reducing clearance; back it off and clearance grows. That is why tapered-bore spherical rollers dominate positions where clearance has to be tuned — vibrating screens, mill and crusher shafts, paper machine rolls. The cost is that it cannot go straight onto a plain cylindrical shaft. It needs either a matching 1:12 tapered shaft seat, or an adapter sleeve with its lock nut and locking device, or a withdrawal sleeve arrangement. If your shaft is not already machined with a 1:12 taper, you need the sleeve assembly as a separate purchase — the matching parts for a 120 mm tapered-bore 222-series bearing on a straight shaft are the H3124 adapter sleeve family (with HM/KM nut and MB lock washer) or an AH-series withdrawal sleeve. Never estimate it by feel. Align the outer-ring lubrication holes with the housing port if one exists, and grease the free space around the rollers rather than flooding the housing.

Interchange guidance

Same-envelope tapered-bore alternates include SKF 22224 K, FAG 22224-E1-K, NSK 22224K, Timken 22224K and Rollway/Regal Rexnord 22224 MB K W33. A tapered-bore bearing and a straight-bore bearing of the same number are not interchangeable in either direction — the shaft arrangement decides. Do not substitute a 23224: the 232 series is wider in the same bore and will not fit a 222 housing.
