| Additional Attributes | Carton marking reads NJ-2209 on a Consolidated Precision Bearings box. NU2209 (no inner rib, no thrust capacity) and NUP2209 (two inner ribs, both directions) are the same envelope in different rib configurations - do not substitute without checking which axial duty the position needs. |

The NJ-2209 is a single-row cylindrical roller bearing measuring 45 mm bore x 85 mm outside diameter x 23 mm wide.
What the NJ prefix buys you: the outer ring carries two integral ribs and the inner ring carries one. That single inner rib is the whole point of the design. A plain NU bearing floats axially and carries no thrust at all; an NJ takes the shaft against its one rib, so it locates in ONE direction while still allowing the shaft to grow away in the other. That makes NJ the standard choice for the floating-but-restrained position in a gearbox or motor — and it means orientation matters at assembly. Fit it the wrong way round and the axial load pushes the rollers off the rib instead of onto it.
Against a ball bearing of the same envelope, cylindrical rollers put a line of contact on the raceway instead of a point, which is why this type carries far more radial load in the same space. The trade-off is that it tolerates almost no misalignment — a cylindrical roller bearing wants a straight, well-supported shaft and a properly bored housing, and it will spall the raceway ends quickly if it is asked to run cocked. If your shaft deflects or your housings are not in line, a spherical roller bearing is the right answer instead.
NJ bearings are separable: the inner ring with its roller and cage assembly comes out of the outer ring completely. That is a practical advantage on a blind assembly — you can shrink the inner ring onto the shaft, drop the outer into the housing separately, then bring the two together. It also means both halves must be kept as a matched set; do not mix rings between bearings.
Designation note: this unit is also listed under NJ-3309, but the carton is marked NJ-2209, and NJ-2209 is the designation that matches this 45 x 85 x 23 mm envelope. Order and cross-reference on NJ-2209.
Consolidated is a long-established interchange line, so this drops into any position specified for a standard ISO NJ2209, and the same envelope is written NJ2209, NJ 2209, NJ-2209-E and NJ2209E across other makers.
