What this part is

One super-precision angular contact ball bearing in the ISO 7011 envelope: 55 mm bore, 90 mm outside diameter, 18 mm width. It has a 15° contact angle and is universally ground, so two of them can be stacked back-to-back, face-to-face or in tandem and will come up to a repeatable light preload. Made in France by SNR, now NTN-SNR.

Decoding the designation

7011 is the ISO angular contact base number, 55x90x18 mm.

C denotes a 15° contact angle in SNR’s 70xx scheme.

What -1/2PR actually means

1/2PR means one half of a pair, that is a single bearing. It does not mean a pair. DU and the light preload implied by J74 describe how two of these behave once they are mounted together as a set; the suffix -1/2PR indicates that what is priced and packed is one ring set, not two. Each SNR Extra Precision carton, labelled 7011.CV.DU.J74, contains a single bearing in its own sealed bag.

What these specs mean in practice

The 15° contact angle biases this bearing toward speed and radial capacity rather than raw thrust. A steeper 25° or 30° angle would carry more axial load and give more axial stiffness, but it also drives higher ball spin losses and heat at speed. Fifteen degrees is the conventional choice for a high-speed spindle bearing where thrust is moderate and thermal growth must stay controlled.

The phenolic cage is a high-speed feature. Laminated fabric is much lighter than brass or steel, so cage inertia and pocket friction stay low, and it holds oil, which helps at start-up. The limit is heat: phenolic should not see sustained temperatures much above roughly 120 °C.

Preload is ground into the ring faces and is fixed at manufacture; it is not adjustable at assembly.
