An SKF 708 ACD/P4 single-row super-precision angular contact ball bearing measuring 8 x 22 x 7 mm. It is an extra-light 70-series bearing with a 25° contact angle, built to the high-capacity ACD internal design and held to P4 (ABEC 7) accuracy.
70 is the extra-light dimension series. 8 is the 8 mm bore. AC denotes a 25° contact angle in the SKF scheme. D denotes the high-capacity internal design. P4 denotes dimensional and running accuracy to ABEC 7.
A 25° contact angle carries more thrust and less speed than the 15° C variant in the same envelope, which suits spindles where axial stiffness governs. The ACD high-capacity design raises the ball complement and raceway shoulder height relative to the older AC arrangement, lifting the dynamic rating within the same 8 x 22 x 7 mm envelope. A single angular contact ball bearing takes thrust in one direction only and is located axially against a second bearing or a fixed shoulder. The seat and housing bore are ground to tolerances matched to the P4 class, and mounting is done by even axial pressure on the ring being fitted so no load passes through the ball complement.
Same-spec equivalents are 25°, P4-class, high-capacity 708-envelope bearings from other super-precision makers, such as FAG B7008… in the corresponding bore, NSK 708A5 and NTN 7000-series 8 mm bore precision variants at a 25° angle.
