The cross-section is square — 8 mm of radial wall and 8 mm of width — which is the defining feature of the thin-section family. Earlier copy for this listing described the bearing as angular contact. It is not: in Kaydon’s scheme the type letter C is radial contact, while A, B, F, T and U are the angular contact variants and X is four-point. The distinction matters — a radial contact bearing takes thrust equally in both directions and needs no duplexing or preload setting, whereas an angular contact bearing of the same envelope is directional and normally used in pairs.
A thin section buys space, weight and a large through-bore. An 8 mm wall carrying a 70 mm shaft lets a hollow shaft, a wiring loom, an optical path or a slip ring pass straight through the middle of a rotating joint, in a housing that could never accept a standard-series bearing. It also cuts rotating mass and inertia. What it costs is load capacity and stiffness: there is far less material and a smaller ball complement than a standard 6014, so these bearings are chosen for accurate, low-friction guidance under moderate load — robot and gimbal joints, rotary tables and indexers, medical imaging, semiconductor handling, optical mounts and camera platforms.
Being open, the bearing arrives without service grease. It needs lubricating on assembly and protecting by the housing. The equivalent sealed build (Kaydon material code J, two nitrile seals) or shielded build (E, two shields) is a different part number and arrives pre-greased.

Thin-section rings are only as round as what you mount them in — an 8 mm wall takes the shape of a bad housing bore, and a bearing that measures perfectly on the bench can run rough once clamped. Machine the shaft and housing to the flatness and roundness Kaydon specifies for thin-section work, support the rings across their full face, and clamp evenly with a full-face flange rather than a few screws. Press only on the ring being fitted and never across the balls. Lubricate on assembly — the bearing is supplied dry.
The direct equivalents are other thin-section radial-contact bearings in the same 70 mm bore, 8 mm square section: Kaydon KA and KC series equivalents, RBC/Thin Section Bearings and Silverthin metric equivalents of matching type and closure. Beware the same-envelope traps — a K07008XP0 is four-point contact, a K07008A is angular contact, and a J07008CT0 is the sealed build. All three share the outside dimensions and none of them is a drop-in substitute for a radial-contact open bearing.
