Universal grinding lets the two rings be assembled back-to-back, face-to-face or in tandem. Back-to-back or face-to-face mounting locates the shaft axially in both directions and develops the built-in light preload once the rings are clamped; a tandem arrangement shares thrust in one direction only. A single row on its own carries thrust in one direction. The set is matched, so the two bearings stay together and the ring faces are not mixed with other units.

Interchange guidance

Interchange requires the same 15° angle, the same light preload and the same P4 or EP7 class. A 7003 with a 25° angle, a different preload letter, a different cage or a lower precision class occupies the same envelope but is a related size rather than a substitute.
