A 40° contact angle is the heaviest thrust rating in the angular contact range. The two tandem bearings share thrust in one direction, roughly doubling axial capacity over a single bearing, while the third bearing set face-to-face against them carries thrust the other way. The result is high one-direction thrust capacity together with full reversing capability and good angular rigidity. Face-to-face mounting also accommodates a small amount of misalignment.
Three pieces, supplied as a matched stack: two bearings in tandem, one bearing face-to-face against them. Stack width across all three: 78 mm. Each bearing measures 80 x 140 x 26 mm.
Bearings from a matched stack are kept together and mounted in the marked relationship — the stamped outer ring face of one tandem bearing sits against the unstamped face of the other, and the unmarked outer ring faces meet at the face-to-face joint. Shaft and housing fits are kept light on a controlled-face set, since internal clearance changes the flushness of the ring faces. Face-to-face stacks are axially clamped both in the housing and on the shaft.
