What these specs mean in practice

A single-row angular contact ball bearing takes thrust in one direction only, which is why these bearings are normally used in pairs or stacks so the arrangement carries thrust both ways. A 15° contact angle biases the bearing toward speed and radial rigidity, and carries less thrust than a 25° bearing in the same envelope. Light preload keeps contact loads and heat generation low, suiting high-speed spindles where thermal growth rather than stiffness sets the limit.

Fitting notes

Mounting is an interference fit on the shaft and a close fit in the housing bore, both held to super-precision spindle limits. Faces seat against square ground shoulders, and a runout error at the shoulder transfers directly into the raceway. A polyamide cage suits induction heating of the inner ring only within the cage temperature limit.

Interchange guidance

Same-spec 15° P4 light-preload single equivalents in other schemes are the SKF 7016 CD/P4A, NSK 7016CTYSUL and RHP 7016CTSULP4. The B7016C.T.P4S.UL has a phenolic cage in place of polyamide, the B7016-E is 25°, and the UM and UH versions differ in preload — those are related sizes rather than interchanges.
