A 15° contact angle is the high-speed end of the angular contact range: it carries light to moderate thrust in one direction alongside a radial load, and runs faster and cooler than a 25° or 40° bearing of the same envelope. The extra-light section puts a large bore in a small outside diameter, which is what makes this series useful where radial space is tight.

Thrust is carried in one direction only, toward the full outer ring shoulder, so the bearing is mounted with the counterbored face away from the thrust.
