The two roller rows run on a common spherical outer raceway, so the bearing accommodates shaft misalignment and carries heavy radial load along with thrust in both directions. A machined brass cage raises the load and speed capability over a pressed steel cage and tolerates higher temperatures. The W33 groove and holes let grease reach the rollers directly through the housing.

The 1:12 tapered bore seats on an adapter sleeve, which mounts on a plain cylindrical shaft; the sleeve for this bore is an H3126, with a 120 mm shaft seat. Driving the bearing further up the taper reduces internal clearance, so the final position sets the running clearance. The housing bore is aligned with the W33 grease entry.
Straight-bore 22226 variants and untapered 22226 W33 bearings share the outside envelope but mount differently and are related sizes rather than interchanges. Cage variants such as a pressed steel 22226-CC-K-W33 carry different ratings and are also a related size.
