A single RHP angular contact ball bearing in the 7206 envelope — 30 mm bore, 62 mm outside diameter, 16 mm width. Open, 40° contact angle, polyamide cage, universally ground so two like bearings clamp together to give light preload. This is the heavy-thrust configuration in the angular contact range, for pump and gearbox shafts, worm drives, screw jacks and machine spindles where axial load rather than speed sets the design.
7206 — ISO 72-series angular contact size, 30 x 62 x 16 mm.
B — 40° contact angle.
E — enhanced-capacity internal design, a fuller ball complement than the base 7206.
TN — polyamide cage.
UL — universally ground, light preload.
The contact angle is the number that decides whether this bearing suits the job. At 40° the ball load points close to the shaft axis, so thrust capacity and axial stiffness are high — far beyond what a 15° spindle bearing in the same envelope will take. The trade is speed: a steeper angle means the balls are worked harder by centrifugal effects and the bearing makes more heat at high rpm. Pick 40° when thrust is the problem and speed is moderate; pick a shallower angle for a high-rpm grinding spindle. The E design adds ball capacity within the same outside dimensions, lifting the load rating without changing the fit. Universal grinding means the ring faces carry a calculated stand-off, so two clamped together produce light preload with no shimming and no way to over-tighten the set. The polyamide cage runs quietly and copes with brief misalignment better than pressed steel, but it caps continuous service temperature at roughly 120 °C and dislikes some synthetic oils and aggressive solvents; a brass or steel cage is the answer above that.
1 Pc — one bearing. Universally ground, so if the assembly calls for a preloaded pair, order two of this same code and clamp them together for light preload.
Thrust is carried in one direction only, so something must oppose it — a second bearing back-to-back or face-to-face, or a shoulder. Orientation matters: the wide land of the outer ring faces the thrust, and a bearing fitted backwards loads the shoulder that was never designed to take it. A 40° bearing also wants a real axial load to keep the balls tracking; running one nearly unloaded at speed invites skidding and cage wear. Interference fit adds preload on top of anything ground in, so check shaft and housing sizes against the drawing, and never press through the ball complement.
RHP bearing production passed to NSK, so this designation is now met by NSK numbers. Genuine 40° cross-references in this size include SKF 7206 BEP and 7206 BECBP, FAG 7206-B-TVP, NSK 7206B and NTN 7206B — all 30 x 62 x 16 mm at 40°, and all real interchanges. Related sizes fill the same envelope at a shallower angle: 7206AC and 7206 ACD are 25°, 7206C is 15°. Those are different parts with materially lower thrust capacity, not substitutes, though worth knowing about if your shaft is speed-limited rather than thrust-limited. Across the family the cage code moves too — TVP is glass-fibre-reinforced polyamide, CBP or BECBP machined brass — which changes the temperature ceiling rather than the fit.
