An SKF 2215 J double-row self-aligning ball bearing, 75 mm straight bore, 130 mm outside diameter, 31 mm width, open on both faces. Two rows of balls run in grooves in the inner ring against a single spherical raceway machined into the outer ring. The ball and inner-ring assembly therefore pivots freely inside the outer ring, so the bearing tolerates angular misalignment between shaft and housing without any increase in internal load.
The leading 22 is the ISO dimension series for the wide self-aligning ball family and the trailing 15 is the bore code, giving 75 mm. J is SKF’s pressed-steel cage execution marker. No K means the bore is straight cylindrical, no 2RS or Z means the bearing is open on both faces, and no clearance suffix means normal radial internal clearance, CN.
A self-aligning ball bearing accepts several degrees of misalignment where a deep groove ball bearing of the same size accepts a fraction of a degree, which is why it suits long unsupported shafts, fabricated housings and line shafting where bore alignment cannot be machined in. The trade is axial capacity and rigidity: the spherical outer raceway gives the balls little shoulder to push against, so thrust capacity is low and the bearing is not a locating bearing for a heavily thrust-loaded shaft. The 22 series is the wide-section self-aligning family, taller and wider than the 12 series at the same bore, and correspondingly higher in radial rating.
1 Pc. Bearing only, open, no seals or shields. No housing, adapter sleeve, locknut or lockwasher.
Mounting is by controlled interference of the straight bore on a cylindrical shaft seat, with the outer ring located in the housing bore. Press force applied to the ring being fitted keeps mounting load off the ball rows. Because the outer raceway is spherical, the housing bore does not need to be aligned with the shaft axis, and the bearing self-centres on the first rotation.
2215 J and 2215J are the same designation. 2215 K is a related size rather than an interchange: it has a 1:12 tapered bore and mounts on an H315 adapter sleeve, so the shaft seat differs. 2215 E-2RS1TN9 is likewise a related part, being sealed and polyamide-caged. Same-envelope straight-bore equivalents in other schemes are FAG 2215-TVH, NSK 2215, NTN 2215 and Koyo 2215, all 75 x 130 x 31 mm, with cage material and clearance set independently by each maker.
