A FAG NN3028AS.K.M.SP double-row cylindrical roller bearing for precision spindle work. Tapered bore, machined brass cage, lubrication groove and feed holes in the outer ring.

Two rows of cylindrical rollers give a very high radial capacity in a short axial length, which is why this section sits at the front of a machine tool spindle. The 1:12 tapered bore seats directly on a matching tapered spindle journal, and drawing the ring up the taper expands the inner ring to set radial clearance to a measured figure, so preload is adjustable at assembly. A machined brass cage tolerates higher speeds and higher temperatures than a pressed-steel cage and is dimensionally stable under oil-jet lubrication. The AS groove and holes let coolant or oil be fed straight to the roller path through the housing. An NN double-row cylindrical carries radial load only, so it is non-locating and leaves shaft position to be set by another bearing in the arrangement.
