An SKF 4311 ATN9 double-row deep groove ball bearing with a 55 mm bore, a 120 mm outside diameter and a 43 mm width. It is open on both faces and has a glass-fibre reinforced polyamide cage.

Two rows of balls in one pair of rings roughly double the radial capacity of a single-row 6311 in the same bore and outside diameter, and the bearing still takes thrust in both directions like any deep groove design. That combination suits shafts that are radially loaded but have limited axial space for two separate bearings, such as gearbox intermediate shafts and pulley mounts. The polyamide cage runs quietly, has low mass so it tolerates acceleration well, and holds up under marginal lubrication; its 120 °C ceiling is what limits the bearing in hot service, where a pressed steel or brass cage version is specified instead. Open faces mean the bearing relies on the housing for sealing and can be lubricated from the housing supply.

A single-row 6311 shares the 55×120 envelope but is 29 mm wide with roughly half the radial capacity, so it is a related size rather than an interchange. Sealed or shielded versions of the same size restrict lubrication from the housing and change the effective width of the bearing faces.
