Decoding the designation

793 is the cup identity in Timken’s 795 series. The D denotes a double cup, which is why the ring is a two-row part rather than the single 793. Timken’s single 793 and this 793DE share the 8.1250 in outside diameter and differ in width and raceway count.

What these specs mean in practice

A double cup fixes the axial relationship between the two rows inside one ring, so the row spacing is set at manufacture rather than by shimming two separate cups in a housing. That gives a repeatable bearing spread and a shorter housing bore to machine, and it is the standard construction for TDO two-row wheel, roll neck and pinion mountings. The two raceways face outward from the centre, which is what gives the mounting its thrust capacity in both directions.

Quantity and configuration

1 Pc. Double cup only. It takes two Timken 795 cones, and a two-row mounting on this cup also uses a cone spacer sized for the required setting.

Fitting notes

The cup seats in the housing bore, normally to a light interference or line-to-line fit, and is pressed on the cup backface. Row setting on a double cup arrangement is taken up through the cone spacer and the shaft clamp, since the cup itself fixes the raceway spacing. The cup backface to-clear radius governs the maximum housing shoulder fillet.

Interchange guidance

793 is carried across the tapered roller industry as a common interchange identity. The single 793 cup is the same outside diameter and a different part: one raceway, roughly 1.375 in wide, taking one cone. Within the same family 792 and 799 are separate single cup and cone identities at the same 8.125 in outside diameter and are not substitutes for this ring.
