What this part is

A double-row spherical roller bearing in the SKF 222 series, 70 mm tapered bore, 125 mm outside diameter, 31 mm width. Two rows of barrel-profile rollers run on a common spherical outer raceway, so the inner ring, roller and cage assembly swivels inside the outer ring and absorbs shaft-to-housing misalignment up to 2° while carrying heavy radial and bidirectional axial load.

Decoding the designation

22214 gives the ISO base: 222 dimension series, bore code 14 for a 70 mm nominal bore. C is the internal design generation. K is the 1:12 tapered bore. J is the pressed steel cage. No clearance suffix follows the designation, so internal clearance is normal, CN. The 22214 CK and 22214 CCK forms in the cross-reference list describe the same envelope with a different cage code.

What these specs mean in practice

The 222 series is the wider, higher-capacity spherical roller section at a given bore — 213 and 223 series alternatives at 70 mm bore differ in width and load rating. A pressed steel cage keeps rotating mass low and supports a limiting speed of 6700 rpm, where a machined brass cage would raise capacity and lower speed. Bidirectional thrust capacity means the bearing can locate a shaft axially as well as carry its radial load.

Tapered bore mounting

The 1:12 tapered bore mounts on a tapered adapter sleeve fitted to a plain cylindrical shaft. Supplied without adapter sleeve H314, KM locknut and MB lockwasher. Driving the inner ring up the sleeve taper is what sets the running clearance, so the mounted clearance is a function of drive-up distance rather than the shaft tolerance.

Lubrication provision

The outer ring on this variant carries no W33 groove designation. Lubrication is by grease charge or by an oil bath in the housing.

FAG 22214-E1-K and NSK 22214EAKE4 share the ISO envelope, the tapered bore and the series, and interchange directly. Straight-bore 22214 variants are related sizes rather than substitutes: they seat directly on a machined shaft step and take no adapter sleeve, so the shaft is not interchangeable between the two. Operating temperature range is −30 °C to 200 °C.
