An internal gear pump runs quieter and with less flow ripple than an external gear pump at the same pressure, because the meshing geometry gives a longer, gradual sealing line instead of an abrupt tooth-by-tooth handover. That is why IPV pumps show up on injection moulding machines, presses, test rigs and machine tools where 300-plus bar is needed but noise at the operator station is a specification. The trade-off is the fixed displacement: flow is set by shaft speed alone, so any flow control has to be done with valves, and the wasted energy shows up as heat in the tank. If the application needs load-sensing or energy savings, a variable-displacement pump is the right answer, not this one.
Frame 3 holds full 330 bar continuous rating across every displacement in the frame. That is not true further up the range – the larger frames de-rate as displacement grows (for example IPV 4-32 drops to 250 bar continuous). So a frame 3 pump gives you the full pressure capability of the series in the smallest envelope, at the cost of low flow.
The IPVS series is Voith’s higher-pressure development of the same envelope family, rated up to 420 bar peak; IPVS is the part to look at if the circuit has been uprated. Within IPV, moving between 3-6.3, 3-8 and 3-10 changes only the displacement and one port flange size, so a substitution is normally a flow-and-plumbing question rather than a mounting question. The line is Voith Turbo H + L Hydraulic; Voith publishes no radial and axial shaft load figures in the catalogue and directs users to their representative, so shaft loading is not stated here.
